I really miss Topaz Mask AI. It’d be amazing to see it integrated into Photo AI. Cutting out elements from an image is one of the most tedious tasks. Even now, Mask AI still works pretty well.
A $50 updated version of the software would be perfect in my opinion. But maybe better would be to add this module in Photo AI.
I recently powered up my old computer after years and realized I still had Mask AI installed, I’d completely forgotten about it! I gave it a try again today and it works pretty good. But it’s an old program, and I don’t know how it would scale on a modern GPU. So many things happened in the AI world the past 3 years.
There are so many background removal services out there, but I’d love to see something truly powerful dedicated to it. There’s definitely a market for it. And it would take some market share from other softwares and online service too.
It’s not just about basic image compositing; the need to isolate people, faces, hair, objects, pretty much anything, is something I haven’t seen fully put in one nice package. I mean, there is Luminar Neo from Skylum, but it’s another full on image editor. They have a remove tool in it too, I have so many now, between Affinity Photo and all the various softwares like Topaz, etc.
I’m detouring objects and people almost every day for my work. I use the remove module the most too.
If Photo AI is destined to be an all-in-one Upscale+Basic image editor, I think having a Mask AI module in it would be an excellent move
