What is it about Topaz Labs’ noisy, ever increasing, brass band advertising? And is enough ever enough?
Recently I received an email from Topaz Labs, somewhat breathlessly suggesting I needed to renew my subscriptions, otherwise the once only reduced price of re-subscription would return to full price.
This mail out conveniently overlooked my account, which was set up some years ago to automate re-subscription payment once a year. My reason for mentioning this is given Topaz Labs’ sophisticated, data gathering technology, they know full well the customers who have automated re-subscription. So why waste the time of these customers??
I have come to the conclusion that corporate mixed messaging, coupled with aggressive marketing is one of the hallmarks of contemporary North American business. (Many digital graphic artists would recall the less than convincing back peddling of Adobe in recent months, over their ambiguous wording of 2024/ 2025 customer contracts.)
Fast forward to today. When checking updates for my licensed Topaz Labs products, I found Gigapixel now has an illuminated, distracting symbol, calling on customers to “buy credits”. In recent months Adobe has been dragged over the social media coals over their use and misuse of “creative Cloud” contracts. I am disappointed Topaz Labs appear undeterred, and are going down the same ideological business path.
