Processing Canon raw files strips out basic metadata like ISO and shutter speed, when I use AI vs 2.1.3 as a PS plugin. The very good workaround is to run it standalone, but if there’s a fix, I’d like to know about it.
When I apply noise reduction or sharpening and save the file in the plug-in, it loses basic metadata.

Which Photoshop plugin path are you using:
File > Automate > Topaz Photo AI
Filter > Topaz Labs > Topaz Photo AI

Would you mind taking a screen recording of this behavior so I can see exactly what is happening with this workflow?
Loom is a great free application for this: Loom | Free Screen & Video Recording

Does the metadata loss happen when using the File > Automate > Topaz Photo AI plugin?

Yes, the metadata is lost in either case of using the plugin, but there’s a caveat.
I tried several workflows … and I concluded that the ONLY problem that occurs is when I use Topaz AI and save or export to a JPEG in PS. How odd!
Topaz AI > Photoshop > export to jpeg = all EXIF data retained, and my now-standard workflow when using Topaz
Photoshop > export to jpeg = all EXIF data retained, and my standard workflow when not using Topaz
Photoshop > File > Automate > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as TIFF > all EXIF data retained
Photoshop > filter > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as TIFF > = all EXIF data retained
Photoshop > File > Automate > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as TIFF > export to jpeg = EXIF data is stripped
Photoshop > filter > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as TIFF > export to jpeg = EXIF data is stripped
Photoshop > Filter > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as or export to jpeg = EXIF data is stripped
Photoshop > File > Automate > Topaz AI > Filter > Photoshop > save or export as jpeg = EXIF data is stripped
Photoshop > File > Automate > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as TIFF > close file > open in ACR > export to jpeg = all EXIF data is retained
Photoshop > filter > Topaz AI > Photoshop > save as TIFF > close file, open in ACR > export to jpeg = all EXIF data is retained
So I have three good workflows which solve all my problems.
I can run Topaz first, and everything works
I can save as a TIFF, and everything works but I have a large TIFF file
I can save as a TIFF, close PS, then open the TIFF in ACR and export to jpeg, and it works!
Thanks for your guidance.

John, I am SO SO sorry. A thousand apologies for causing you any trouble. I went back over ALL workflows. My normal workflow for 80% of shots does not use Topaz OR Photoshop. I only use Adobe Camera Raw. And ACR does NOT strip out EXIF data. I just realized that it’s Photoshop that’s stripping out metadata. And I was blaming Topaz AI.
What can I do to make it up to you? I am so embarrassed.

All good, I’m glad that we figured this out!
