Topaz AI Remove Noise filter makes photo mushy if original size is cropped

When using the remove noise functionality, if the photo is cropped, the AI algorithm makes the photo very mushy.
There should be an option to apply the remove noise filter only to background (excluding the subject).

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Step 1
    Crop the photo in other software

  2. Step 2
    Apply the Remove noise filter in Topaz AI

  3. Step 3
    Observe that the subject has lost details and looks mushy.

It sounds like Remove Noise is too strong for the subject. For now, decreasing the strength would be best.

I resurfaced a task for adding Background Only Remove Noise so we can work on it soon.

I tried adjusting the strength of the Remove Noise filter, but that didn’t help…
Also, let me rephrase my problem - when scaling up and using Remove Noise filter, the picture appears mushy.

If you have Upscale turned on as well, you may want to decrease the Upscale - Minor Denoise to the lowest setting to avoid removing too much detail from the image.
