While I truly appreciate the evolving nature of improvements to final image output, some of these “improvements” to the interface seem like a step backwards or just for the sake of a new look.
Especially in labeling buttons, if anything, their function becomes less clear and interrupts workflow more for the sake of dumbing the program down. If anything, I want MORE control, not less! I really wish in the subject selection there was a slider that let me choose how much NR/Sharpening was applied to the subject and background individually if anything, not less and less control with more automated decisions made for me.
And NOT being able to scale an image size when using as an Adobe plug-in is pretty frustrating.
Don’t try to be LR, they already exist for people who want 1 slider to do it all… I think most chose Topaz because it’s better and gives more control. You already are taking away the updates to the individual Denoise, Sharpen & GP AI app’s which still do a better job on their own, please don’t make Photo AI into a canned toy that is dumbed down for the masses, please keep it a flexible photographer’s tool!
Thanks,
Eric
EDIT PS: Oh, and the threshold in which autopilot decides that NR is needed seems to have dropped way off, and there isn’t even an option in preferences to edit that threshold like with sharpness…
Well written Eric,
Change for the sake of change is not what is needed.
I purchased this product for what was offered at the time and in a few short months it has removed a number of features that I wanted. As you mentioned, there is now less control over certain aspects of the program. Taking that away from photographers who wanted and appreciated that control will
only serve to move them on to other products.
If you click into the filters on the settings panel, a dropdown menu with various sliders will appear and you can manually adjust from there. We’re continuously working on the balance between amazing Autopilot results (to reduce the amount of manual editing necessary) as well as robust control over the settings for when you do want to make your own adjustments.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to build a fantastic product for you. FYI if you wanted to revert back to any of our previous versions, you can find them here: Releases - Topaz Community
Oh, for sure I get that the sliders are there, it’s just the points I mentioned about them and the GUI in my post is what is a little frustrating. And the control of the autopilot in Preferences. Also, some sliders are always on to some extent, and can only be slid down to 1, not 0. I know the program is constantly evolving, mostly for the better, but for those of us that depend on workflow to keep things moving along, it would be nice to eventually standardize on the interface at least somewhat on the major modules. I don’t want to hold back the program from improving, just looking for some consistency. I don’t need a new GUI to justify renewal. You know the old saying in Sales “stop selling after the customer says yes”. Same here, you have a loyal following now, just keep improving the product itself, no need for glitz, and glam, just cool new stuff that works and continues to improve the output IQ is all most people really want. If you have a want list, being able to “save macro’s” or some such, when we do a batch of similar photo’s that need similar settings, it would be nice to have a save-as button for current settings, that we could save to a file we name, and apply those settings to other images or batches of images with similar needs. But… that probably won’t be a thing until things stop evolving enough to have an update not break the macro.
Thanks,
Eric
Thanks for clarifying. I understand your feedback and insights. I’ll pass them along to the rest of my team to keep in mind as we continue developing the application.
We have a series of really cool new features as well as solid fixes for existing bugs coming soon, particularly in September for v2.0!
