Suggestion | Super Focus To Render Only Selected Object

Yesterday for a first time I’ve tried Superfocus on just a selected subject and was surprised that PAI still renders whole image despite only subject is selected.

Here’s an example - picture of a little bird, whole picture is 25Mpix (5784x4344) and SuperFocus estimates (after a 5 minutes) 103minutes to render it with my GTX1060/6Gb.

As it is enormous and in fact only bird is interesting I choose Subject in Auto selection and PAI was great to select just it - see picture.

Started render and exactly the same result as with the full picture - 103 minutes so it was again full picture rendered instead of just a small bird (approx size 700x530 pixels)

PAI was used as a plugin from Affinity Photo

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Choose a picture with small object
  2. Choose Superfocus mode and start rendering full picture - write down required time
  3. Start again but now Select subject only and start render - exactly the same time as a full picture like nothing is selected

Hello,

This is the expected behavior, as once rendered, you can go refine the selection to add/remove quickly areas without having to reprocess. The development team is however looking into introducing a forced render only on the selected area as you suggest!

One feature / option would be highly beneficial:

The ability to automatically select either sky, or landscape, or background before rendering AI Super Focus. The same way as it currently works for denoise and sharpen operations.

Agree. I can confirm that it’s on the development team’s radar!

  2. On some distinctive type of image fragments SuperFocus creates artefacts or just works way too strong:

  • When a fragment has multiple small parallel lines, like falling / flying snowflakes or tiny crevasses on old wooden logs.
It would be great if AI algorithm could be corrected for such images.
  1. I got a distinctive pink cast on a winter scene picture in several images after applying SuperFocus Beta. Now got color casts on some of other images as well. I cannot see why it happens on some pictures and doesn’t happen on others. When it happens, it makes SuperFocus totally unusable.

  2. I’m not sure if this is even theoretically possible, but the feature similar to Adobe Photoshop “fade” the last operation would be nice to have.
    No wonder it’s still beta.
