Strange checker pattern still present in newest release 2.2.1 - will go back to 2.07

[Please describe your issue here. Try to include logs (Help → Logging) and add screenshots if necessary.]

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Step 1: load (Fuji GFX100 II RAF) RAW
  2. Step 2: optimise in standalone app
  3. Step 3: open in Adobe Photoshop and you will see the checker pattern in homogeneous regions!

GFX 100 II, hm.

I would not go with TPAI for Raw denoise at the moment, bc. it does cut off highlights and you did not buy a 8K camera with an BSI sensor for getting lower dynamic range.

You could denoise the image after you did edit it with the raw converter of your choice.

Thanks for the warning  Interestingly 2.07 does a better job. Any idea why?

No, I don’t know.

I know that tiles can appear at higher denoise values. so the further you push the slider up, the more likely it is.

Can the GFX 100 II internally average exposure?

I will be looking into long exposures next year.

Maybe I’ll get myself a GFX 100II, I’m particularly interested in the full 16 bits that the camera can record.

Ok, the corrections look more or less the same with 2.07 or then later versions. I have checked all newer versions after 2.07 – always the same. But it might be a speed optimizing process related to the remove brush – something I can life easily without… I don’t think that average exposure is possible within the camera. But on the whole, the IQ is quite impressive.

Btw - there are two main reasons why de-noising RAWs in the standalone application is important to me:

  1. if I de-noise a TIFF coming from Capture One, there may be pattern loss/interferences maybe due to an interaction of the two denoise algorithms.
  2. If I send the “RAW” from C1 via Plugin to Photo AI and then back as a DNG, the WB is completely off

I use PhotoLab 7 for RAW denoising because it is the most reliable and has a nice fine detail resloution (good for enlarging with PhootAI) (if you use Deep Prime XD) and no its not the same as PureRaw.

But it also has its problems like changing the white balance and pattern generation at high values.

It works best at 30% and with the legacy color space.

If you come to PhotoAI as a tiff after Capture One, it is recommended to set the denoising in C1 to

1/0/0/20

Thanks for the values. Since I am using/tesing a lot of different gear - including PhaseOne backs – I stick with C1. PL7 is not really my taste when it comes to usability  - but the demosaicing is nice as well as the DeepPrime algorithm.

I use it for denoise only.

I’m a Capture One Beta and Alpha tester.
