Starlight Mini, AMD?

Hi all,

I am about to upgrade to an AMD 9070XT, which is a very capable card. When can we expect AMD support for Starlight Mini?

As soon as it’s available, I will renew my subscription.

Thanks!

The team is working on making the model compatible with AMD cards as quickly as they can. Unfortunately there is not an estimated timeline of when that will be ready for launch.

Once it is there will be an update shared on the forum and through our marketing team letting users know.

Kyle SOMEONE in the company always knows the estimated timeline - of course it can change, etc etc, but someone in the company ALWAYS knows - probably a bunch of people.

Any updates? This is painful…

I’m 95% sure the latest version or the new Studio has support for AMD 7.1.4 - that said, I don’t think it has many test cases and topaz staff have been actively asking for AMD users to test it.

Please post here if you do end up trying it. I too was thinking about a 9070xt but probably going to wait until AMD release the XTX if they do, or Nvidia to release 24GB 50 series models.

Would love to hear of how Starlight mini goes for ya though!

Hello?

Sorry for the delay in response on this, we have been handling a lot of support tickets and posts and trying to get to each of them.

Topaz Studio version 1.0 and 1.0.1 do have the Starlight model that is compatible to run with AMD GPU cards locally for users who have a Pro license or are Founder status. The Starlight model does require at least 20GB of VRAM though.

I have a AMD Ryzen AI 395 max with 64GB VRAM and Studio 1.0.1 … Starlight gives me an error after loading the model. its not working for me.. why?

I’ve yet to see one post here with a successful Starlight encoding on AMD…

AI395 is the CPU and 64GB is System Ram I think. Which GPU you have, or do you use the onboard CPU graphic? If yes I’m not wondering that didn’t work. It would be good if everyone who uses AMD GPUs could let us know, so we would know which cards Starlight runs on.

No AMD RYZEN AI MAX+ 395 has 128GB unified Memory.. with a built in 8060S GPU
its new and the codename is Strix Halo.
You can set the Vram up to 96GB and works great with 120B LLM from open ai.
benchmarks from Video AI is at the bottom. it works good with it but not with Starlight and I dont know why. I bought it because of the huge amount of Vram for Starlight.

The RyzenAI is a bit similar architecture as Apple Silicon - so while not at the full speed of a discrete gfx card still way above the typical “integrated” solutions.

And it has the advantage of having LOTS of unified RAM.

It definitely should be possible to make Starlight work on this -just don’t expect wonders for speed.

It’s not the speed thats important to me. it’s the amount of VRAM, because more VRAM means better quality by Starlight. On a local render with RTX3090 / 24GB I can still see tiling artefacts, which is not the case in the cloud version. So I hope that 96GB vram on the Ryzen AI will avoid the tiling artefacts. its my second pc and can run 24/7

BTW, I also want use the local render, because the videos are heavily compressed before being uploaded to the cloud and again when downloaded… I don’t know how to prevent this. :frowning:

problem is in the live they reduced Vram usage very early after first Starlight Beta release, I think in case of prevent slow down rendering it takes to much shared memory, but I never understood why it’s not possible reduce shared memory near zero while Vram of the card get maxed out.

so in the V7.0.2 (I think also 7.4) I get about 24.3GB Vram usage with a 5090 card (also on my 4070Ti the 16GB gets not maxed out). In the Beta 7.0.0.4b I get 31GB Vram + 4GB Shared, (at start it goes up to 38GB then 30min later down to 35GB and keeps it over full rendering)

Can you send the full logs folder to us at the support team email so I can put them in front of the devs for review?

I have sent the logs to the email

This is very disappointing. I have a regular 9070XT card with 16GB of VRAM. The fact it seems it won’t work with Starlight Mini is disheartening. I hope this will be reconsidered.
