In TopazVideo-1.0.2, the Starlight model cannot accurately output the width and height set in the UI. For example, if you set it to 1440 1080, the model will output 1280 952. As a subscriber, I cannot tolerate such a low-level problem.
Output resolution settings are only suggestions that are frequently ignored. In my experience, it also loves changing the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 3:2.
On the support page, there is a good article on the ‘evolution’ of Starlight that explains the changes we found out the hard way, rather than Topaz Labs taking the time to explain them when we observed changing/inferior results with the early versions of Starlight Mini. When users of the betas and Video AI v7.n versions started asking questions here in the forum, these concerns were not adequately addressed. It’s been a shell game and I feel like one who has lost.
The Starlight that gave me astonishing 10 second previews in the early going has been replaced with one that produces demonstrably inferior results. It took reading the aforementioned article before I could put the pieces together, and it was a couple of weeks after the transition before I understood what they have done. Had I known this, it would’ve been a much more difficult decision to go with the subscription.
This is an issue that the team is working on addressing and resolving. There are several factors that are at play here and the segment of the docs page that Cbrillow mentioned is linked below as that will help a little bit. Nonethless, this is being looked into so that the resolution selected in the app UI is the one that the model exports for the users in the future.

The illustration on this page is worth is weight in gold in clarifying the changing terminology and performance that we saw during the late spring and summer months.
I would wonder if there could be rough equivalence between Astra’s Precise Speed setting and local Starlight? Or is the cloud version a bit better than the local one?
Quite obviously, Precise Quality would be the considered the top performer.
I will pass along that note to the team and see if we can get something updated for those choices.
