When I use the Lightroom plugin for Photo AI to it Sony A7 V (not A7RV) raw files, the files open ok and seem to denoise perfectly but I receive a “DNG write error” when trying to save back to Lightroom. I’ve seen no Photo AI updates since the A7V was released and a Google searching isn’t returning anything specifically on the A7V for this. I see older related posts for the A9 iii, but nothing on the A7V. It’s a tad frustrating having to identify the file names I need to work with, write those down, then go to Adobe DNG converter, convert them, then open in Photo AI to edit/save them, then import back into Lightroom.
Hi Jeffrey.
You mentioned the old Topaz Photo AI however, you’re posted under the new Topaz Photo category
So, there are Two possibilities:
If you’re using as I suspect the new Topaz Photo then, currently the SONY A7V isn’t supported basically because, Topaz use a third party RAW Converters from Lib RAW and as soon as they release an update for your Camera Topaz will inevitably add this Camera within the next Release Update.
In the meantime I’m afraid you’re have to continue with your current workflow using the Adobe DNG Converter.
If however, you’re are indeed using the old discontinued Topaz Photo AI then I’m afraid Topaz will probably not release a patch update to support the SONY A7V
Hope this helps
We have an opened ticket for adding support for this camera. For now, like Andy mentioned, you’ll have to convert the image to DNG before using in Topaz Photo. DNG is still RAW.
Can you share a file for this camera so we can test and work on a fix?
That’s strange because I’m using Topaz Photo 1.1.1 and I’m able to open A7 V RAW files just fine.
Scratch that. I only tried to open the files and not actually do anything and export as a DNG. That doesn’t work.
Do you have an A7 V RAW file yet? If not, I’d be happy to provide one if you tell me where to upload it.
We don’t have a file yet. If you want, you can upload one so we can test ![]()
- You can securely upload the files to our Dropbox
OK, I just uploaded one.
Thank you
Alexandra
It’s now two months since the Sony A7 V was released and Topaz Photo offers no support at all for the two more compressed RAW files, and my experience of using Photo with the Lossless Compressed RAW files is unsatisfactory.
During that time - two months - there have been several tweaks to Photo, but Topaz seem to rely on the RAW Digger developers and have no control over their time scales.
By coincidence, my annual subscription renewed in early December 25, but I have wasted two out of twelve months worth of payment as I can’t use the software to a satisfactory extent with the new files.
Is this what happens when any new camera is released?
Regards
Malcolm
My subscription is up for renewal later this month. I’ll likely not be renewing for this very reason. I’ve embraced and learned how to better use the tools available in Lightroom.
Jeffrey
I have used the intervening two months to experiment more with Lightroom’s tools, and discovered that the Denoise tool is better and quicker than anything I can do in Topaz Photo. Perhaps not renewing a subscription will get someone’s attention?

Malcolm
Using the DNG file will be the same as your native RAW file and will work in the app.
There is no timeline on when we can support this camera. Let us know if the DNG workaruond gives any issues.
Here’s an interesting question. Once you support the A7 V, will you update Gigapixel AI and Photo AI to support it as well?
Gigapixel AI and Photo AI are discontinued and won’t get updates. You can use the DNG in them and it will work.
That’s what I thought. There was mention of those versions still getting bug fixes and updates for new operating systems. Just wasn’t sure about about supporting new cameras.
