Slow Selection Performance

I’m having the same issues on a Windows system. Subject selection/refinement lagging to the extreme. Practically unusable!

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply and I apologise for my delay in replying, but I saw that there was an update, so I wanted to download it and try it before replying to you. While the update has appeared to improve the problem slightly it still isn’t as good as it was.

I have uploaded my full system info via your dropbox link today.

Regards,

Phillip Keath.

Thank you John, I have replied here and via email. My system profile has been uploaded as requested.

regards,

Phillip.

Thanks for sending those in.

I would like to see if updating your GPU driver will resolve the problem.

Please use the following link to update your driver: Intel | Driver Update

After the update, let me know if you are still experiencing the problem.

Helli John, I checked out the intel driver update site and it recommends against updating the driver through them and to do any updates through ASUS. Screenshot attached below if it works?

According to ASUS my system is up to date but I contacted the ASUS customer support and they reiterated what the intel site states ‘do not update from the Intel site’ as it can affect the function of my system. They also checked that my system is up to date with all required updates being installed.

I never had this problem prior to doing a Photo AI update and since doing the last update it appears to be a little better but only marginally?

Thanks for sending in that information. Let’s try adjusting your AI Processor to see if it makes the application more stable while running on your machine. Please open Topaz Photo AI and go to Preferences > General and set your AI Processor to CPU. Run some test and tell me how that goes for you.

Thanks again,

I’ve tried it on each of the different settings and none of them seem to make any difference under the AI processor section. When trying to add a mask in the sharpen module there is roughly a 3 second delay on every stroke that you draw. I am also up to version 3.0.2 now after completing another update today.

When I want to adjust the mask with a brush, it does follow my mouse very slow and freezes a lot. It is actually not usable at all. How to deal with this?

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Step 1
    Let Ai do its work
  2. Step 2
    select sharpening and selection
  3. Step 3
selct brush with - or + and start painting

Topaz Photo AI 3.0.2 on Windows

With the new Update i experienced that sometimes the Brush tool, resets the size of the tool and sometimes the value of “30” is like a tip of a pencil and sometimes like i would use a cup or a spraycan… so it is not consistent unlike before.

Using Photo AI on Windows 11

Let’s try updating you to the most recent version release to see if this resolves the issue.

Please make sure you’ve also turned off any firewall, VPN, or proxy that may be on your computer. These are known to block the installation. Also, make sure there are no settings or configurations in your OS system that could interfere.

Try using the appropriate OS system link to update:

Hey there John,

i double checked and there is no update available, it is Version 3.0.2 im running.

Really, what gives with this? I get a remove “bar” but NO BRUSH to identify the object I want to work on.

Does this thing work at all??

Topaz Photo AI [v3.0.2] on [Mac]

When using the Paint/Erase tool for the selection mask for Sharpen or Denoise, the app will crash if the pointer of your cursor touches the edge/goes outside your screen at all. This can be very frustrating when trying to do precision alteration especially.

The circle can touch the edge, even a large portion of the circle if the masking tool brush size has been increased. The middle point, the cursor itself seems to be the trigger.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. In Sharpen or Denoise, go into Selection Mode
  2. Using the selection tool, erase part of the mask, ensuring the cursor itself (the crosshair) goes outside/touches the edge of the image.
  3. Crash.

Topaz Photo AI [v3.0.2] on [Windows] as a Photoshop Plugin

On going from 2.4.1

Exporting DNG from LRC to TAI. Sorry to say still same issue regarding lagging of brush on adding/removing parts of subject and that the movement of the brush is not smooth. Superpixel and objection selection worls fine. Have no issues in cursor movement in any other production eg Photoshop or Lightroom Classic. All drivers are up-to-date. Keep being told its being looked at but no time line as to when will be fixed.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Export copy of DNG from LRC to TAI - edit as a copy BUT happened with 3.0.1 when default was to overwrite
  2. Let TAI analayze image
  3. In sharpen layer click on 4 horizonatla lines to open layer
  4. Select “selection” and “regular”
    5 Sluggish, lagging red circle

If Topaz Photo AI selects subject areas in a photo that I don’t want sharpened, or missing areas that I do want sharpened, I manually fix the subject area. Quite often, Topaz will crash, forcing a computer restart while painting or clearing the subject area. This happens multiple times each session. I use Topaz Photo AI as a plugin with Lightroom.

Whenever I begin painting Red for remove…
two things I worry about. 1) Will I hit the edge of the image. 2) Will I let go of the mouse button.
If either event happens… if I’m even one or two pixels over the imagined border (I say imagined) because its a little farther than the actual border. What am I talking about.

The system begins processing.

If I let go of the mouse-button the same thing happens.

The system begins processing.

Instead. Why not let me finish painting what I want in the image first. Why does it have to go into ‘Processing-Mode’?

I know it would like to tell me… ‘Oh your image is over 2000 pixels’ or what-not. If that’s the case. Or it’s calculating the size of the box. But can you wait to do this ‘Processing’. Everytime I hit a ‘Edge-Wall’, or change-mouse-button. I have to ‘WAIT… WAIT’ and it takes so LONG!.

The process could be speed up if I didn’t have to wait for each ‘Processing’ function, until I tell it to do so.

Edit: This post was merged into here. I question whether the painting function acts the same for ‘Remove’ as it does for ‘Sharpen’. This above topic started on ‘Shapen’ or ‘Denoise’. Perhaps you can let me know.

The masks management is quite poor:

  1. terribly slow and not precise function
2.For erasing part of a mask, the brush size that can be set is not visible on the screen (there’s only a cross cursor), it makes the editing quite impossible. When using the brush, the results are unpredictable. And the brush size should be adjustable continuously, not in rough steps.

The last version 3.0.4 is a bit quicker than the formers, but it’s still annoying to wait so long for editing a photo. The workflow is heavily affected by this, increasing the editing costs, also for simple adjustments.
