Trying to enhance some dark images results in a message “Some model files need to be re-downloaded before images can be processed”. First, why “re-downloaded”? It implies that they are already present, so why do they need to be downloaded again? Second, and this is the bigger issue, is the often very long wait while these model files are being downloaded (more than 10 minutes in some cases, over a fibre broadband link which is normally reasonably fast). There seems to be a bug somewhere.
The model files need to be updated occasionally for processing purposes. I’d like to get some more information to help troubleshoot the problem you are having.
Could you send us your computer’s full system profile?
Also if you can, please try to recreate this crash in Topaz Photo AI, then go to Help > Open Log Folder, please send me all of the files within that folder. You should be able to attach them directly as a response to this thread.
If you would prefer you can securely submit your files(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Make sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.
Hi John,
I’ve uploaded the files you requested (I think). I originally thought that the problem was with the Topaz Photo AI plugin for Photoshop Elements 2020 because your programme seemed to work fine when I uploaded the image directly to Topaz Photo AI running on my desktop, but recently I also discovered the same hiccup there. I also noted that after finally getting the necessary files re-downloaded to process one image, I had to go through the same painful process when I tried enhancing a second dark image via Topaz plugin in the Photoshop Elements. I don’t begin to understand the ins and outs of all this. I do appreciate that some re-downloading might be needed but query a) why this is soooo slow, and b) why, if the model files have been downloaded for one file, they then need to be downloaded again, almost immediately afterwards, when looking to enhance a second image. As it is, I don’t habitually try reprocessing such dark images so this hiccup doesn’t materially affect me. Nevertheless, it might be worthwhile asking why it is necessary to download these model files so frequently. I keep my software up-to-date as soon as I note that an update is available, so this isn’t a problem of using a much older version.
I also uploaded a copy of the image that started the trouble, only that with this one, note that the banner that appears when I go to Topaz Photo AI via Photoshop Elements 2020 is as shown, whereas previously, with Photoshop Elements 2014 (or before uploading the latest Topaz Photo AI), this banner was more informative. It looks like its content need resizing.
All the best,
Peter Frost
