Should my image downsize if jpeg/sometimes reduced by more than half while RAW upsized hugely

IMG_7790.DNG (27.4 MB)
Processing directly from Topaz AI but same happens with Apple Photos PlugIn

By default, Topaz Photo AI saves JPG files at 95% quality, which is the highest quality that does not introduce artifacts. It’s the most space and quality efficient way to save JPG. You can increase the quality to 100% by clicking Save > Export Settings > Format > JPEG and increasing the slider to 100.

The DNG output file size is also expected behavior. The original RAW file is likely compressed while our DNG export is full size and uncompressed so the output file is larger.

We do not have access to a DNG compression algorithm as that is proprietary to Adobe. If you need to decrease the DNG file size, use Adobe DNG Converter to compress the DNG file to a smaller size.

So does this answer my question of why the JPEG size is reduced by some 50% going from 15.7 MB to 7.3 MB seems a big reduction to get to 95% quality? What artifacts do I expect at 100% quality?

The file size does not affect the resolution linearly if that’s what you’re concerned about. The possible artifacts depend on the image itself and your computer but if you tried it and aren’t getting any artifacts, then you’re able to save at a higher percentage and closer to the file size you expect.
