Scanned DNG files are too bright in Photo AI

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Start LRc

  2. Select a DNG photo that was scanned with an Epson Perfection scanner years ago

This photo does not have any LRc edits.

  1. Click File / Plug-in extras / Process in Topaz Photo AI
  2. Observe that the lighting is significantly brighter in PhotoAI than in LRc

Note that I do not have the same problem when opening DNG files from my Pentax DSLRs.

Would you mind sending in some more information to get a better understanding of the problem you are having with this particular type of image? Please send the following information:

  1. The original image file.
  2. The processed image.
  3. A screenshot or description of the settings panel so I can see what adjustments were turned on.

You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below.

Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

John,

I uploaded both images to your dropbox. I didn’t make any adjustments whatsoever, just clicked “export to LRc”. The image is too bright in the left panel of Photo AI, which shows the original image.

The exported DNG is also too bright when viewed in LRc.

Are you able to use the following plugin path:

  • Photo > Edit in > Topaz Photo AI

Yes. That path does not have the problem. Is there any reason to use one over the other ?

I’ve reached out to some of the developers to see if we have any more information about why the File > Plug-in Extras > Process with Topaz Photo AI plugin would have this problem and will be sure to respond back to you on this thread once I have information to report back.

In the meantime are you able to use the Photo > Edit in > Topaz Photo AI for your workflow as a workaround?
