I have licensed version of all Topaz apps but have not yet upgraded subscription to latest version due to various reasons. One is that I’m not sure that the new versions are good enough/worth upgrading for yet, so at the moment I want to check them out by running trial versions along my old licensed versions to compare and see if upgrading is worth it.
But as I currently cannot choose a custom installation path for new versions there is no easy way of running two versions in parallel.
Anyone have any ideas of the best way to accomplish this?
I have tried to rename program folder and version of old version and then update to new version in default program folder and this works inasmuch as I can run the two versions separately.
But they share the same folders, the same Registry entry etc., which feels like asking for trouble later on if content of models and pre-sets are adjusted specifically for new versions.
If Topaz wants us to continue to upgrade to new versions I guess it would be beneficial if there is an easy way of checking out and compare with new versions prior to upgrade.
Hi, although not a perfect solution, one way of achieving your goal is to use a Beta version for the “trial” as I read that the Beta’s are designed to be totally independent of the release version and so should happily co-exist on the same machine.
it is not officially supported but works also with none beta. You can have so many versions installed in parallel as you like. I have been doing this for months. First you must rename the existing installation folder before, otherwise it gets overwritten with the new version.
Then do not use update prompt, download the full installer here and I recommend in the Installation wizard name the folder always with TVAI version.
Yes, I have done what you have described and I can run the two versions in paralell, but the actual questions/issue remains. The two installations share the same Registry info and the same Preferences (settings) folders!
So you cannot have separate directories/folders for Resources/Models, Presets or Workspace folder, not in my case anyway. If you change these Preferences in one version it is the same for the other version.
This may not be a big issue right now, but if the models for later versions are adjusted and no longer backward compatible with earlier versions you may end up with issues.
Just wish that the Program Data folder (C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Video AI on Win) also was separate for each installation!
I did everything/re-installations from scratch again and now it seems that I can actually change both installation and program data folders, so it seems much better now!!
