RTX 3080 vs RX 6800 (XT)

Want to upgrade soon and wondering how the RTX 3080 and RX 6800 or 6800XT stack up against each other. I can currently get a 6800XT for about $100 less then a 3080. I know someone else posted a similar topic about a year ago but wanted to see if opinions have changed, although it seemed like they were kind of all over the place. I only care about raw performance as in do they stack up the same, which is faster which is slower and by how much.

As of right now, the 3080 will give you more than double the speed.
I might be assuming things in what I’m about to say, so keep that in mind.
The reason the 3080 gets double the speed is because TVAI implemented the ability to use it’s RT cores. So, even if they make the same improvements for AMD cards, they will still be much slower than the Nvidia cards—If RTX feature performance in games is any sort of inductor.

My main machine benchmark.
And here’s my new server computer:

hmm, looks like I won’t be getting an RX6900XT, it’s actually slower then my RTX 2070 Super and the RTX 3080 isn’t much faster then my 2070 Super. Topaz REALLY needs to work on their optimization for AMD cards, these benchmarks for top tier AMD cards are pathetic compared to Nvidia cards.

To top it off: there’s either an issue with my AMD card, or TVAI, where it starts blacking out sections of the video until it’s all black. I have not been able to use a single video processed on that machine.

Jeez that sucks. Well hopefully by the end of the year, which is when i plan on upgrading, they will have fixed the problem and optimized it better for AMD GPUs because as it stands now I definitely will not be getting an AMD GPU.

update. Just bought a RTX 3080 yesterday and I’ll have it Monday.

Keep us posted with your TVAI results once installed on your rig

With the updates, the 6900 XT has been better. It works every time with movies less than an hour long. I had one long video get black sections, then updated to 3.2.2 and ran it again. It came out fine.
Either way, it’s still a little slower than a RTX 3080.

Well it was nice while it lasted. I killed my RTX 3080 today while replacing the thermal pads. I dislodged a resistor and now my GPU is dead. I figure it’ll cost $200-$300 to get it fixed if it’s even possible. I’m so pissed and sick to my stomach right now.

If it’s just one resister, you should be able to find someone with soldering experience. They’re not going to charge you that much. I saw a listing on ebay the other day offering GPU repair for 40 dollars. Maybe I’ll have to look that up again for you to see if they do soldering.

I’m actually at a shop right now and a guy is repairing it lol. Wish me luck :crossed_fingers:.
