Ridiculous terminology: inputs or sources?

Is it inputs or sources?

“File > Close all inputs” —> “Are you sure you want to close all sources…”

The Export queue pane has “All sources” toggle.

The “…” local menu next to an export target in the Export queue has “Close video” and “Cancel and close all videos”. Not sure what the “videos” are here. Will it close the sources/inputs?

The “Sources” pane has “sources” but in the context menu for any thumbnail, it’s “Edit video input”, “Close input” and “Close all inputs”. So which one is it?

Thank you for the feedback on this, I have sent a message to the team to review the terminology and clean it up in a future update to reduce the confusion.

The same goes for “videos” vs. “exports”. There is the Export queue pane, and in there we have “Exports”, so clearly an the “video clip to be/being exported” is called an “export”. Good.

But then in the “…” local menu of any export there is “video” again. Like “Close video” and “Cancel and close all videos”. But this is ambiguous. Would it just remove the EXPORT from the Export queue, or ALSO close the SOURCE?

Just use very clear: “source [video]” and “export [video]”.

In the top-right gear popup, there is “Input settings” (Rotation, Input color override). Maybe this should be changed to Source there as well.

In preferences, there is… Import! “Default import file type” and “Convert DPX imports”. So we actually have “imports” and “inputs” and “sources”.

so in next UI re-design we get additional to this inbounds, inplaces, inserts, intakes…and intruders
