When upscaling a video with subtle tone shifts and dark shadows, blocky artifacts always appear. in a 720p video upscaled to 2160p, the blocks are 30*30 pixels.

Are you seeing the same issue with Rhea or just with Rhea XL?
Testing confirms it is only Rhea XL.
Can you share the logs for this as well, that way we can have the devs look further into this and we can run some tests to replicate with other videos as well. You can link them here or send to the support team directly if you do not want to post them publicly. help@topazlabs.com

can confirm i am having the same issue. when i open the video in VLC or Media Player i see the same blocky pattern that OP posted
When it comes to people, I only use IRIS for enhancement.
And only IRIS.
(Sharpness and dehalo settings are important.)
AI has to “invent.”
It can be low-error, but never error-free.
Topaz’s models are the best compared to the competition. (my opinion)
IRIS works very well with faces.
There should be an improved model at some point that can also handle all body parts with few errors.
