Could you please post a screenshot of what you experienced?
Please find attached example. My partner has consented to this photo of her being uploaded.

Is there any chance you can also post the original?
This black box is certainly very strange
Please find attached the original “in camera” JPEG.
Please observe the same conditions re. social media posting.
Sorry server will not allow RAW file as it’s too large

Thank you for providing the photos.
I ran the TPAI autopilot (2.3.1) on MacOS and I did not experience the same effect which can be seen on the one you shared.
The subject mask is a bit sloppy.
The face detection seems to also identify the wall picture as a face which is ok, even though one would think it should be able to tell the difference.
Have you tried to reinstall TPAI (uninstall + install)? I would say there is something wrong with your installation perhaps
Yes, I have tried uninstalling, using an uninstaller program that logs the complete installation. The uninstaller deletes all references and files that a normal uninstall leaves behind (PC version).
I have tried different versions of TPAI from 2.01 up to the current version 2.31 and all produce the same effect. I am at a complete loss how this is happening as when I first purchased TPAI up to version 2.2 (something) there was no problem.
Now it happens with whatever version I use.

This thread has been merged with a similar thread from other users experiencing the same issue. Can you review the following information:
On several images like this one, the FACE DETECTION tool frezees.
i´m using
a P2200 (latest drivers) but i choose CPU processing.
Open the application, without an open image, as a standalone and change the setting in preferences.
2.3.1 froze on this picture. Could never complete ‘detecting faces’. Merely dropped picture in frame waiting for autopilot to complete.
Steps to reproduce issue:
- Step 1
- Step 2
- Step 3
Topaz Photo AI [v1.x.x] on [Windows/Mac]
Same problem fails even after uninstalling and reinstalling. Version 2.3 worked. Version 2.3.1 fail.
Successfully completed in 3 seconds, and even improved the two faces in the Framed B&W photo.
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 2070 Super
GPU Driver NVIDIA DRIVER 551.23
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
Memory: 32GB
Monitor: ASUS ROG PG348, 3440x1440 @ 100Hz, G-Sync Enabled
Many people are reporting this issue, but no one seems to be providing any information to help them track down the cause.
Face detection does not work at all in the current version of the software (Topas Photo AI 2.3.1). The function freezes the program and cannot be used at all. Image format does not matter (jpg, tiff, raw).
Different settings do not change the situation (Preferences).
Topaz Photo AI [v2.3.1] on [Windows 10]
Hi again,
Further to my previous email, I did a bit of digging around on the web and by accident came across people who were having problems with TPAI and AMD Radon graphics cards, mostly to do with drawing too much voltage / wattage.
I suddenly had one of those eureka moments and realized these problems started occurring when my old graphics card “gave up the ghost” and I replaced it with a Radeon model.
I hunted around the AMD support website and found documented issues with their tech support and best of all a driver patch for my card, I have installed it and rerun TPAI and everything is now working as it should do.
I would like to thank you for your assistance, as you gave me a much needed kick in the brainbox.
Best wishes, MJV
Hi John – thanks for your e-mail.
I’m not sure I can help as I have deleted the updated version and re-installed version 2.1.3. However, the logs are attached if they are still of use.
I’ll get back to you on the system profile – that may be beyond my technical ability.
Many thanks
Jonathan Allen

Thanks, John.
I’ve uploaded my log files to your dropbox.
Not sure exactly what you mean by system profile. I’m using a MacBook Pro, Apple M1 Pro, 16GB memory, Sonoma 14.2.1. What more do you need to know?
cheers
Dave
I am running Topaz AI on 2 computers. I have this problem on the high spec machine with NVIDIA GForce RTX 2080 graphics card but no problem on the lower spec machine that has AMD Radion graphics
Hi John,
Enclosed please find the files with the Windows System Profile

When detecting a face the application got stuck in an endless loop.
In addition the following message is displayed:
A disabled autopilot does not help. The only difference is that no filter recommendations are given.
As far as a face is detected the app got stucks in the endless loop.
Kind regards
Knud
