[RESOLVED, Image is not a case for Super Focus] - Oversharpened look with Super Focus

Applying super focus on this .nef image creates discolouration on the the subject’s throat and left wing.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. In LrC right click image and select edit in PhotoAI
  2. Set focus selection to bird’s eye
  3. Select super focus and render

Topaz Photo AI v3.3.3 on Windows

SuperFocus is still in beta and I find that it generally doesn’t do a good job on fur and feathers (see my comments in the main v3.3.3 thread).
Your image appears to be only slightly soft, so I think you’d get a better result with the normal sharpening tools. It can often be beneficial to apply a second layer of sharpening just to the eye. Or in my case I just use a local adjustment in my main editing software to brighten the highlights and maybe increase contrast and vibrancy as well.

This is more oversharpened than a color shift. The oversharpening on the wing adds white lines, which seem to change the color of the wings. The same thing is happening on the throat. For this image, I would not recommend to use the Super Focus as it doesn’t need it. You will get better results with the regular Sharpen tool in Photo AI.

It is true that the tool is in beta, and we will work on improving it for feathers. It works great on some images that I tested, but not all.
