[RESOLVED 1.1.0] App Hangs on Exit

Topaz Video hangs on every exit attempt and the process must be ended manually. I was hoping the latest update would fix it, but the behavior continues.

I don’t know if this is related to your issue or if you’re asking about Cloud or Local Rendering but, I was having a similar situation with Starlight Cloud Rendering and discovered my VPN was causing the problem and simply disabling it solved my issue

My issue is not related to rendering per se. Every time I attempt to exit the Topaz Video program, whether by selecting File –> Exit or by clicking the X on the window, the program hangs. After that I must use Windows task manager to manually end the process. The only time this does not happen is if I open the program and then immediately close it. If I process any video and then try to exit it always hangs.

It’s certainly not good and I don’t know what happening either so, hopefully someone else from the community who has a better understanding of your issue can help

To gather logs, please select Help > Logging > Get Logs for Support and attach the zip file to your reply.

I am running windows 11, Release 24H2 64 Gb RAM.

Recently converted to the subscription version. Ever since the tool won’t close properly on its own. I have to go into task manager and kill it.

It seems to run OK, but hangs on closeout.

The program freezes while trying to close and I need to click “close window” several times for it to fully exit.

I have the same problem, also on Windows 11. If I am patient after attempting to close Topaz Video, Windows eventually says the app is not responding and offers to kill it.

That’s an issue already reported by others.

Apparently going to the menu bar and closing the app from there works (so don’t use the X on the apps title bar).

Which version of the app are you running? The team is investigating some reports of users running into issues when closing the app with the new Topaz Video release.

This was in version 1.0 and 1.0.1. This seems to be resolved to new version 1.0.2

Topaz Video 1.0.2 on Win11 with RTX5080:

I noticed the App freezes/crashes after using local Starlight models in different scenarios:

After these steps (variant 1):

  • Upscale a video with Starlight or Starlight Sharp and wait till it’s done OR cancel the rendering in the export queue with “… > close video”
  • Click on “File” > “Exit” OR in the menu bar top right “X” – Result: App window freezes/crashes

As well as after these steps (variant 2):

  • Upscale a video with Starlight or Starlight Sharp and wait till it’s done OR cancel the rendering in the export queue with “… > close video”
  • Then close the render queue view
  • Click on “File” > “Exit” OR in the menu bar top right “X” – Result: App window freezes/crashes

As well as after these steps (variant 3):

  • Upscale a video with Starlight or Starlight Sharp and wait till it’s done OR cancel the rendering in the export queue with “… > close video”
  • Then close the render queue view
  • Then click in menu “File” on close all inputs
  • Then click on File > Exit OR in the menu bar top right “X” – Result: App window freezes/crashes

In all these cases, when the app freezes the user interface is gone, it remains a black app window without any menu bar. The only way to quit the app is to force quitting via task manager (ALT + STRG + DEL) or make a right click in the windows task bar on the app icon and click on “close window” in the context menu (this doesn’t work immediately, only after multiple clicks on “close window”).

I am on version 1.0.3, and it is still happening after using Starlight, which is mainly what I use it for.
