Request: Shutdown Windows 11 after all exports done

It would be great if there was a shutdown PC option when all exports were done, like in Handbrake.

Why? You can set your OS to sleep or hibernate if inactive for so long, and TVAI running counts as being active while processing.
The argument of saving on the power bill is a wimpy one. Running TVAI for 1 hour is equal to running my computer idle for 6 hours—and that’s with Proteus Manual upscaling to 1080p, probably one of the least power intensive use cases. I check my computer at least every 8 hours, so in the worst case scenario without having the computer go to sleep or hibernating, TVAI would complete within a few minutes of me checking it, and then it uses the same amount of power as it would have if the processing had taken an hour or two longer than I expected it to.

Hi TopazVideoRookie,

Yes it would be great because Windows 11 Pro is putting my computer in sleeping mode after I do not use my keyboard 10 minutes.

CPU usage is not a key for sleeping mode. It is the way you use your computer and I have to force sleeping mode ineffective.

Thus a sleeping mode done as anyother rendering by night software would be great.

By the way, I have this feature on several softwares.

Cheers, nice idea.

Vincent.

@ForSerious,

So why there is several another softwares from different companies that do implement such feature?

Sleeping mode is not triggered by CPU usage but by keyboard usage.

If you do not use your keyboard, usually by night when you are sleeping, your computer is going in sleep mode even if your CPU is at 100%!

And rendering by night is time saving and money saving because you have electricity rebates by night here.

I am forced to set the sleeping mode to never in Windows 11 Pro!

Why saving energy and money, that could be a good question.

Regards, Vincent.

Your computer won’t go to sleep if you watch a movie on it. Same with processing a video with Topaz Video. (At least that’s what they have said. I also have my computer set to never sleep, but I have been doing that since 2006 on all my computers because it messes up a lot of the hardware I use.)

I have done the math for my energy costs, and I stand to save maybe 5 dollars in a year if I had the computer shut off when it’s done. I would save much more by not processing anything with TVAI, but since that is something I want to do, I think the extra pittance from having the computer stay one is worth it.

@ForSerious,

A computer won’t go to sleep while you are reading a video because the video player send a message to Windows to not enter in sleep mode.

Video AI is not a video player.

I have actually on my computer at least 5 softwares that have such feature for sleeping or shutting down the computer after ending the process.

In this case, you set the sleep mode to disable and the software is managing that for Windows.

Saving energy is not just the problem.

Any electronic hardware has a limited time of life. If your hardware is on for doing nothing, you reduce its true use life expectancy.

And by the way, you are not forced to use this smart feature if you love to spend your money for nothing and leave your computer on, while processing nothing, and reducing its life expectancy.

The urban legend that explains that faillure happens mainly when starting computer was true when computers were based on mechanical hardware such like HDD!

It is true that HDD has a limited number of starting and so it was better to not shutdown.

Actually, all mass storage are SSD.

Best regards, Vincent.
