Report | [Transparency] Cases

I am trying to upsize a png in Gigapixel 8.0.1 and it is adding a white background along with significant artifacts. Another member on my team is experiencing same problem. Bit depth, color space, output format all preserved/set correctly. When changing output format from preserve original to png, results in same unwanted background.

Any ideas?

It looks like a transparency layer issue. Topaz doesn’t preserve the alpha info properly.

If you can create the equivalent image without an alpha layer it should enlarge properly.

I have an image that is just text on a blank background. I run it through the gigapixel “text-shapes” AI and on the screen it looks great. Exactly what I want. But when it exports it, it’s literally just a black image?

I can also reproduce this. PNG output used to retain transparency, but something seems to have regressed in version 8.

Same issue here. PNG transparency is gone and I only get a black page after exporting.

Yes I’m also having the same issue. It doesn’t happen with all images but after removing a background from a TIFF image and upscaling it in Gigapixel it changes the transparent background to black. I can’t figure out why.

I’m using Gigapixel v.8.1.2. When I upscale transparent PNG images, the upscale appears to work within the interface; however, when the image is saved, it is a solid color and the image is lost. I noticed that when I take the same image and upscale it in Photo AI, it saves correctly and the image is preserved.

I used the redefine generative model to render a PNG file. The file had a clear background. The finished product had a white background even though it was saved as a PNG. This happened twice and now I’m out 18 credits. What gives? BTW, I have used redefine for the same thing before with no issues, so this is a new problem

Hi artiedeco,
Thanks for reporting this!

We will look into this issue soon. You can submit a ticket with our Support team and we can communicate with you more directly to help troubleshoot your conflict as well as gather more information to reproduce the bug for investigation.

Can you also let me know what version you used where redefine was successful with your PNGs and which version was not?

Hi Esther,

I sent the original email to the support team using the link in your reply.

I am using version 8.1.2 I see there are updates available, so I’ll download those right away.

The two files involved had copy request IDs:

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Started this evening. Been putting off updating to latest version and thought that might be the issue. No change after doing the update. I was using Upscayl before that randomly went wonky like this too - that was free so you kinda shrug and move on. Gigapixel isn’t free and this kind of bug remaining apparently unresolved for 2 months is not acceptable.

after recent updates transparent background source images come out with a black background after running through Topaz.

How do I get this to stop?

Hi.

This issue is currently being investigated and the best thing to do is rollback to the previous version until this is fixed

Thanks for the advice and the links. Hope it’s fixed soon. At first I thought it was something I was doing in my export, but it kept happening, so I figured it wasn’t just me.

I’ve had the same problem as well, glad to know it’s not just me. The product is useless for us right now as is. If it can’t be fixed we will need to end our subscription. Mainly we use it for enlarging customer logos for digital signage overlaid onto other backgrounds. Is everyone else using MacOS or is it all platforms this is happening on?

apparenty there is another thread about this: After recent updates transparent background source images come out with a black background after running through Topaz - #2

I installed version 8.2.2 (macOS) as noted above and it contains the same bug. Can we roll back to V7?

Hi.

Here’s the link for version 7.4.4

Mac

And the link for all previous versions

Hope this helps

@AND-E , I tried rolling back to 7.4.4 and I’m getting the same thing. One thing to note is that for me it’s only happening on designs with all black font. I ran the newest v8 on a design this morning with black font and a white outline and the full black output didn’t happen. Then I ran 8 on my next design (all black font), got solid black output. Rolled back to 7.4.4, same thing.

Any other ideas? This design I’m working on needs to be black text only, no outline.

I hadn’t tried testing any PNG’s previous to Gigapixel update, however, I’ve Just tried exporting a PNG Image with transshipment background from Photoshop to my desktop then, drag and drop it into Gigapixel AI applied 2x upscale saved image back to desktop as PNG and opened back into Photoshop

Everything is working as expected image successfully opened in Photoshop and retained the transshipment background

I’m using a Windows machine and the latest Gigapixel version 8.3.1

Here’s the link to version 8.3.1 for both Windows and Mac
