Real world performance Mac vs Windows laptops

M4 Pro can have a 16 or 20 core GPU a M4 Max can have a 32 or 40 core GPU.

ArtisRight has the first of his tests. But all of them are with Adobe and adbode doesn’t use the neural engine. He does compare a decked out Alienware with a 4090 and it is alwayts way at the bottom of the pack. On many of the tests my 3 year old M1Pro beats it in the Lightroom tests by double. I still want to see the M4Pro with 48 GB RAM using the neural engine. Not yet.

On all the tests so far, if you want fast speeds you need at least 64GB RAM

I think it is overall # of cores that matters. I have M3 Max MBP (16 C) 128 Gb and M2 Ultra MacStudio (24 C) with 128 Gb RAM, M2 Studio is much faster than M3 Max, job is usually done in half the time than M3 Max.

But your RAM is the same. Of course in a situation where the ram is the same then the difference is the cores. When the cores are close to the same, then its the RAM. However, there is not much difference in speed of the individual cores between the M2 and the M3.
But yes for most things the Studio with 24 cores and 32 core Neural Engine is the fastest. But I don’t wish to be tied to a desktop upstairs, and so I need to be using a MBP.

However, the M4 speed jump is dramatic in both individual and group, and the neural engine is dramatically faster. Hopefully Art or Someone will test Topaz with the new M4 machines on Topaz against the M2 Ultra and the m3max. hey have been tested against the M2Ultra and they are neck and neck or M4 is faster in most things on Lightroom or Photoshop or FinalCut pro.

I wonder if there is anyone here with a new M4Pro 48 gb who could compare Photo AI performance between the other generations in seconds to do a 45 mp photo at de-noise, upscale and sharpen.

None of the Pundits on YouTube seem interested in anything but video.
