I’m seeing a repeated problem, where exporting in ProRes422 is not using the right bit rate or tags when switching between ProRes422 STD and ProRes422 HQ.
Sometimes, if I try to export as ProRes422 STD, it will actually export at the HQ bit rate, even though the file is tagged in MediaInfo as ProRes422 (not HQ). The files are twice as large as they should be, and MediaInfo reports the bit rate at HQ bit rate levels, but as a ProRes standard file. If I then switch and export the exact same file using HQ, the file size will be identical, and appropriately tagged as HQ. In other words, there is no difference in the output, except that the first file is inappropriately tagged as Standard, when it’s actually HQ.
I’ve seen the same problem in reverse, too - where both an attempted HQ export and a Standard export are both saved at the Standard bit rates, even though one file is tagged as Standard and one is tagged as HQ.
This is a pretty serious issue as it would be very easy for someone not to notice that they’re saving their file at a quality level that is not appropriate for their project. Moreover, it’s not even easy to be aware of this problem unless you actually look at the bit rate. You could save a file as ProRes422 HQ, thinking you’re preserving a lot of quality that is in fact being lost, because the file is actually Standard, even though it’s tagged as HQ.
This may not be a P0 bug, but it’s at least a P1, imo.
