Why does photo AI 3 not ask if I want to edit a copy of the light room file?
That option seems to have disappeared.
I’m using the File → Plug-in extras → Process with Photo AI
I also have this issue after updating to the newest version of Topaz Phot AI (on a Mac system). Makes it unusable which is kind of a pain since I have a lot of photos to process. Is there any way to rev back to the previous version? should have known better than to update the software midway through my photo job
If it does not, open Topaz Photo AI, go to the menu bar on the top, and click the ‘Help > Open Log Folder’ menu option. Please send in all the files located in this folder.
You can securely submit your files(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Make sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.
Thanks for your tips with this issue. I followed the first part of your email and reinstalled the program. When I tried to use it, I got the error below;
It will not save the new file so this program is not usable in the current state. The other thing I noticed is that before I update the software it would always ask me if I wanted to update the original file or a copy of the file. I prefer the copy of the file option. This dialog box is no longer appearing, so I am making a copy of the file manually and trying to edit that one with Topaz AI.
Any additional suggestions you may have are really appreciated. I have loaded the Log folder files from Topaz AI to your dropbox as requested.
Thanks again for your efforts in trying to help me with this issue.
I use the first plus in : File > Plug-in Extras > Process with Topaz Photo - previous version there were à new file in TIFF format - my original files are in DNG (LEICA Q3 files in raw) and the files after editing with AI are in DNG too which could fit to me if it was en new file. I have to save my file elsewhere and rename before reimportation it to avoid this issue which is absolutely inefficient
I am opening the plugin in LrC with File>Plugin Extras>Process with…
I also have the option "Place processed images… enabled but the processed images still don’t show up in LrC. I have to Import them from the hard drive. They are in the hard drive in the correct folder so they are easy to find. It’s just another step that we never had to do before. Same results today, running the latest version.
I figured out a Lightroom Classic workaround for this issue that allows me to work on my camera’s .DNG files while maintaining the original files. This method also causes the edits and metadata to be retained in the Photo AI returned file.
In Lightroom Classic, once I have selected a raw DNG to edit with Photo AI, I open the containing folder using Photo → Show in Finder. The file should be highlighted in the Finder window, so I duplicate it. Now, and this is critical: I rename the file to lower-case the extension. Eg: XYZ1234 COPY.DNG becomes XYZ1234 COPY.dng.
Back in Lightroom I synchronize the folder so that my duplicate image file appears in the LrC catalog. I select the “copy” and edit it in Photo AI with File → Plug-in Extras → Process in Topaz Photo AI
Once I wrap up the edit and export back to Lightroom, everything is totally fine. My new copy of the image has the Photo AI changes in it and any original LrC edits too. And no Lightroom warning message comes up about failures to import.
This is clunky, but works 100% and I’m able to edit my raws in Photo AI with the latest updates.
