I have had Topaz Video AI for ages. I had 7.02 working fine with starlight mini working on my system and then I installed 7.1. Now the system wants to run a system check for starlight mini and then says I need to download 6GB files - which was done previously with 7 and Starlight mini has been working fine up to this point.
It fails the download every time - I have retried many times over the last few days - with the error “parts of the download have failed”. I uninstalled Topaz reinstalled and cleared out everything in program data. The rest of the program works - after reinstall it needed to redownload Iris and other models and they all worked.
I have a second computer I have made which is the one I use for Topaz all the time with a 5060 TI installed. I do not want to update that and have the same problem.
What can I do to download Starlight mini?

I had same problem, reinstalled Topaz cleaned everything from programfiles to programdata to appdata including registry cleaning from topaz labs entrys, then reinstalled…and…did not helped. What I find out is Topaz downloads Starlight mini as zip-file, and download breaks and resume goes wrong..dead end. After several trys, two days later, I had it…so try again and again later and again…
Topaz Team you really should take an eye on your failing Starlight downloader to prevent angry customers.
I have still not managed to download Mini. I managed to get a download for 7.02 so went back to that but I have the same result. I will we could download Mini on its own as well. I have Topaz on 3 machines and have two licences. If I could download the 6GB on at least one machine I could use the same download on the others, in the same way I can download the normal installer.
After writing this message, and with 6.02 installed, I kept retrying the download all morning and eventually it just worked. Now I don’t know whether I should update to 6.1 and hope it stays working or leave it as is..
When it does not work again, rename Model folder as a try and and see whats happens. The thing is, when there are corrupted (zip) files into the model folder comes from SLm download then SLm download could be permanently broken.
When you can see “N/A” in the SLm download window, I thinkt his can indicate already downloaded parts are corrupted. Unfortunately i have not identified all files which comes from SLm download. If we were able to recognize all, a simple batch file could be written which deletes these files before each SLm download attempt
Before you upgrade, make a backup copy of Topaz Labs Model Folder unter %ProgramData% and also copy the Topaz Programfolder under Program Files
Before I saw your reply I had decided to live dangerously and upgrade the program to 7.1 - this time by choosing the update option inside the program instead of downloading 7.1 from the link on the forum. It has not had to reinstall Starlight Mini so I am finally up and running.
So my solution is keep pressing the download button until it works.
One of my attempted solutions was to completely delete everything in programdata so that included the models, but that did not solve anything.
Good your SLm now works! That’s so exhausting and needs urgendtly fixed. It’s really strange nothing seems to help except try again and again… I know SLm download is a least one ZIP-File, because after one of my failed download the following message appeared into TVAI: “ZIP file found, click yes to extract.” Sure I clicked yes
…and nothing happened I think because the ZIP was incomplete/corrupted.
The zip-file download could go to a temp folder elswhere we don’t know, and only by extract the Unzip destination is Programdata, this would explain why deleting model folder does not help. Without Topaz support, I can only speculate because the whole thing is like a black box.
I could not find where the temp files were going. It was only when it failed and I just kept pressing retry that it finally worked - each time the percentage download would creep up and drop down again, and then suddenly worked.
I now have a 6GB model in program data - models-lib-site-packages plus another 3GB for “astra.1.0” under models. On the occassion the download succeeded it seemed to do 6Gb then start again on a 3GB download.
Thanks for your help.
The team is looking into these reports and the download issue to try and get a resolution put together.
Glad to hear that the repeated attempts worked to get it completed.
After updating to the Topaz Video AI 7.1.0 Version i wanted to use starlight mini with my video. The System-Check was ok.
The Download startet immidiatly at 1GB changed after a while to 0GB and shortly after again to 1GB. After another while it ended with the message “Parts of the download have failed. Click “Retry” to try again”
Several retries brought always the same result.
Even after a complete new installation (deinstallation and cleaning the system) the same result.

I had exactly the same problem and I was unable to download for about 4 days. Eventually I got it to download just by repeatedly pressing the retry button until it worked. I did post about the problem here Problem downloading Starlight mini. One person reply with some useful information about where the data is stored after it is downloaded but there as no solution.
Mine would repeatedly jump to 15%, sometimes go higher and then drop back down, and then fail. Quite frustrating I am afraid.
Some instances of this issue have been resolved by users swapping to a hot spot connection or turning off anti-virus, VPN connections.
This is being looked into though from the team for a resolution.
Version 7.0 crashed on launch if I tried to use it offline.
Version 7.01 would download starlight mini, and it worked online, but going offline caused it to get stuck in a loop of constantly insisting it it needed to be re-downloaded, but not being able to do so (even though it was installed and working.
With version 7.2 I didn’t even get far enough to test it offline because starlight mini would not download at all, and previews were now broken completely as well.
I tried completely removing and re-intalling, and now none of the models will download. They say they will, but nothing happens. It gets more broken evey update.
I cannot think of a single version from the past few years I can use that isn’t broken in at least one important way.
where did you get version 7.2
Video AI v7.2 has not been released yet so if you are using a version that is showing as that it is not a released version. There have been some recent issues in releases that the team has been working to address as quickly as they can.
If you would like to send the logs to the support team we can take a look and see what is going on?

Sorry, | was very tired when I posted this and frankly rather frustrated - I believe the correct version numbers in order were 7, 7.0.2, and 7.1. I’m not taking detailed notes any more when crashes happen because I literally cannot remember the last time a version worked properly.
I will try and get some logs but cannot at present as I’ve had to install 6.2 again to try and get it working. I tried to update the original post with correct version numbers, but I don’t seem to have the option? I’m able to update replies but not the OP.
I’m pretty sure I’ve read reports from multiple other people regarding downloading and using starlight mini so I don’t think this issue is unique to my system. I’m on 64gb ram, 4060 TI.
I just upgraded to 7.1.3. I have a 4090 24GB. Over a TB of space. I tried downloading Starlight Mini on 2 different Windows 11 PCs. I have uinstalled, removed all folders and registry and installed again multiple times. Watching my Network stats, I see it has downloaded the files, but I always get stuck on “Finalizing”. Is it just me?
I have tried several times on this issue. It just remain unzipping forever.
My PC is 5090d v2 + 9800x3d.
This is happening to me too - stuck on “Finalizing” - I’ve let it sit for 30 minutes now, still no change. About to ask for a refund …
Happening to me as well, does not download the model stays at 0%. Subsequent opens does not retry to download the model; very frustrating.
