Preview colour way off

I just updated to 3.3.1. The colour is way over saturated and not accurate. Comparing to calibrated viewers like Screen in the same color world, the previews are way off. Fortunately exports out are the correct colour value when rendered to disk.

Can you share a screenshot? Which encoder are you using?

Is the color off in the preview or with the exported file?

I am attaching a screen grab. Is there a way to do this when I post? I would always include if there is a way, instead of after the fact.

The video is Rec709, so not being converted from odd color space, as you can see in the metadata window of Screen. I use this for viewing on my desktop for high quality previews and of course this gives me the color science of anything I’m working with that comes from outside.

I’m using iris and it does quite a nice job, though I’d love to be able to pull back so that people aren’t quite so plastic looking. As soon as you drop the file in it looks this way, extremely over saturated. It renders out properly, perfect color, so this is a preview thing.

Ah, yes that is currently expected in the preview! We are completely redoing the in-app player and this will be one of the things we correct.

I am attaching a screen grab. The first screen grab was rejected by the community, not sure why. Here is a smaller png.

So odd, the image is not posting! Can you PM me?

Yes, just tell me where to send it. I’d like you to see.

I just converted from a png to jpeg. Maybe this will come through.

Do you have the VLC player? If so, can you check there? This can occur with certain video players. Also which encoder are you using?

I only see this in Topaz, nowhere outside of Topaz. I am a colorist, do feature films, commercials, television series. All my monitors are highly calibrated, system color is always aligned between applications. I do not see this saturation boost in any other application, Adobe apps, Davinci Resolve, Screen, QT, etc, only inside of Topaz. Hope this explains. Before Topaz looks fine, after Topaz looks fine, viewing inside Topaz over saturated.

Yes, that is expected, unfortunately! So long as this is not occurring outside of the app, everything is functioning as expected.

We are working to create an entirely new preview experience which is why there have not been many minor or major updates to the in-app player.

Okay, great to hear. These products are really a game-changer at times. I’ve scaled 4K shots to 8K with superior resolution for a wildlife show I’m working on, removed compression blocking from iphone footage that has to be used, made miraculous saves to low quality still images supplied for documentaries. Keep up the great work.
