Pixelation being introduced

Problem:
Output of Enhancement (Iris Low or Medium and Proteus) and Frame interpolation (Chronos Fast) causing blocky/pixelations to surface.

Description:
OS Windows 11 (10.0.22631.4751)
TVAI 5.x and 6.03
Hardware i9-12900H, 64GB Ram, NVMe, RTX 3080Ti Laptop GPU.
Occurs after weeks or days of uptime (reboot makes not difference).
Issue is intermittent. I can often rerun the 8-20hr rendering and things go well.
Haven’t found background apps to be cause, though could be. I use RDP on this PC a lot, so perhaps session transitions cause oddities.

Using both DVD footage and modern 1080p web videos the problem exists.
Playback via VLC and GridPlayer - same.

Image workflow: TVAI Iris3 (Low) - Good. TVAI Chronos Fast - Introduction occurs.

Solution:
None found thus far. I lose confidence in the output when I render a batch of dozens of videos for a week and find the batch sours mid-way.
Any suggestions?

This could be caused by the system GPU becoming hot over time, I’d recommend making sure the laptop is on a hard surface and try and keep the room it is in cool and well ventilated.

Thank you for the suggestion.

As far as heat dissipation, I do have laptop on tilt stand to allow circulation from all sides; a fan circulating air and room runs ~75 degrees.

Oddly I re-ran the same criteria for 60fps on same input and the pixelation glitch occurs at the exact same place, so the problem seems more akin to an algorithm mishap.

Occurs in both slow and fast motion scenes.

Updated OS to Windows 11 (10.0.22631.4890) - Still 23H2, but a cumulative update.
Updated TVAI to 6.04.

Powered off PC for hours (so it’s cool).
Ran same original video and rendered 5s at a known failure point using Chrons vs. Chronos Fast this time.

Same.

Timecode in TVAI shows 20:35,15 (14th frame of 23.976).
Timecode in AviDemux at 20:36.068 is on a P-FRM type (vs. B or I) .
The corrupted video persists for 10 frames until a B-FRM.
Not that this makes a difference necessarily, just more datapoints.

Tried at 60fps and 50ps. Same.

Tried with Apollo model. Worked!

There are dozens of these glitches through the 50 and 60fps Frame interpolation renders and exports.

Root cause seems to be the Chronos and Chronos Fast AI model.

Noises Off… (1992) - AI_edit.mkv.zip (3.0 MB)

Attached is a I-FRM to I-FRM (Keyframe to Keyframe) excerpt.

Someone please try Chronos and see if the issue is repeatable elsewhere.

Thank you,

Yup, noticed it too after encoding in Proteus and the VFR bug is not completely fixed either.

Back to 5.3.6.

Here are some results!

proteus, Chronos Fast 50fps

proteus, Chronos Fast 60fps

proteus, Chronos 50fps

proteus, Chronos fast 60fps

Margaux, thank you for the sample outputs.

Can you provide insight as to the problem reported?

What version of TVAI did you use?

i.e.: Should I roll-back to an older version, use a beta release, other?

Thank you,

Tested in 6.1.3 - Same issue with Chronos and Chronos Fast.
Anyone else care to offer suggestions?
