Pileated Woodpecker (Female)

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. I heard her pounding on an old stump alongside the road during a walk into the Fay Bainbridge Park. I actually ran back to the house to get my camera. Amazingly, she was still there when I returned. I know this is a female because it doesn’t have red cheeks like the male.

Nice shot. Been trying to get one of the Pileateds that likes our Hawthorne tree but no luck so far.

Nice!

Does it go “Haw Haw Haw Haw Haw Haw!!!”

Except in the heart of winter, I hear these regularly all the rest of the year. Unfortunately, I don’t often see them, but it’s certainly a welcome sign of spring when I here the first calls.
