I suddenly started having this same problem when exporting when the original in Photos was a Nikon RAW image (NEF). Had been working and then just started hanging. Went back and reset one that had worked previously but it then also hung when trying to export (just as in your image).
I finally went back and ran both Disk Utility - first aid. And to be overly cautious also ran OYNX and rebooted. I wasn’t sure if the issue was coming from the Photo library disk region, where I was storing the originals, or perhaps a work area that Topaz was using. So I ran these on all my disks and rebooted.
I am happy now that everything seems to be working OK now - no more hangs.
Request then to Topaz, please put some type of timeout and at a minimum a message when it hangs like this so that people know to do some file system cleanups. Perhaps the software can also detect this type of file issue and workaround it - perhaps with a message/option to the user just in case?
Note that I had something similar happen a few years ago with Topaz export and remembered doing the same thing. I also see several other reports similar on these sections so suspect that many people have run into this.
Note that I have never had such a problem with the other Apple Photo plugins that I use - only with Topaz (so far). I commonly use Pixelmator Pro (use this one alot) and Affinity Photo too without any problems.
Jeff - if you can try the disk first aid stuff on all your disks, hopefully it will fix it for you. And be good feedback to Topaz.
I have the same issue. Tried running all sorts of Disk Utility type stuff & fsck in Terminal, but nothing seems to stop it from not working. My workaround is to duplicate the RAW photo in Photos, edit it in Photos so it saves it back as a JPEG, then use Photo AI 3.2 to process.
After importing an .arw into Photo AI 3.2.0 using the edit function in Apple Photos, my intent is to only de-noise and sharpen the photo. This produces a dng file for export back to Apple Photos. The dng processing hangs, and a file is not created for saving in Apple Photos. This bug existed in previous versions of Photo AI, and Topaz had fixed it by saving the export file as a TIFF, which worked very well with Apple Photos.
Once I add a lighting enhancement to the above, the file is exported as a TIFF (as expected), and the processing works properly. This has been my workaround.
Steps to reproduce issue:
Import Sony arw file from Apple Photos on Mac (up to date Sonoma) to Photo AI 3.2.0 using three dots in edit function.
Auto-enhancements applied to photo (RAW de-noise and subject sharpening).
Hit “Export to Apple Photos” button
Processes Export ARW-dng and hangs with no resolution.
