Photo AI

Have been using Photo AI for a few days now with Lightroom Classic. Great product! Here are a couple of things that I have noted.

  1. When returning to Lightroom from Photo AI the rating filter in Lightroom is turned off. Would be nice to not have that happen so the user doesn’t have to re-establish the rating filter after every Photo AI edit.
  2. In the Upscaling section of Photo AI it would be advantageous to be able to enter a fractional upscale value such as 1.5, 2.5 etc.
  3. The ability to create custom presets would be nice as well. As it is, every photo requires a complete setup. I understand that batch processing could be seen as a way to accomplish that, but that doesn’t work on a case by case series of photos.

Otherwise a great program for any photographer!

@stephen.cline-7064 I’m glad you’re liking Photo AI so far!

  1. I believe this is a Lightroom setting but if other users have further insight that would be great.
  2. You can manually type in the scale with a decimal point. We’re considering adding more decimal points for increased precision.
  3. Not sure if you came across this yet but in the Edit menu there’s a “Apply Current Settings to All” which lets you apply all the settings from one image to the rest of your batch.

Thanks for the kind words!

Hi Tim - Thank you for your reply to my concerns. I’ll address them by the number I listed them int he original message.

  1. I have verified the bug that when returning to Lightroom Classic from Photo AI all filters that I have set in the collection I am working on are turned off. I do not believe this to be a lightroom problem as your other TOPAZ products (Sharpen, DeNoise, Gigapixel) do not exhibit this behavior. It’s very frustrating as after I finish with a photo in Photo AI and it is returned to Lightroom I have to re-establish all filters again to establish what I’m working on. The filters that I normally use are Rating, Color Label, and Metadata selection (such as all photos with a particular lens). This sure looks like a software bug with Photo AI.

  2. I’ve found that when entering a decimal value in the TOPAZ products that value does not stay for subsequent photos. The feature is also available in GigaPixel, but it has to be entered for each photo in order to be effective. I’ll look forward to more decimal points as you suggest in future editions.

  3. I think that you misunderstood the issue that I was asking for. Yes - I do see the “Apply Current Settings to All” feature. The problem with that is that not all photos in a batch process require the same settings. I would like to see a “save preset” feature (much like you would find in Lightroom and other editing programs). This will save the ‘having to reinvent’ the settings each time you prepare a photo.

Anyway, hope that helps clarify things. Item #1 is a major issue for me as it severely adds to my workflow and editing time. Imagine working on a collection with 100 photos in it and having to redo Lightroom’s filters after processing each photo.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ll ask our developers for more information on the first point to see if there’s anything we can do for you.

Also, we’re currently developing a feature that will allow you to customize the Autopilot settings and apply selective settings to your batch so it’s not all the settings all the time. The expected launch date for that is Sept 7.
