Photo AI - Sharpen

Hi, I have a file that I’m trying to Sharpen w/in Photo AI. The original file has the DPI set at 300. After running the file through Photo AI (to use the sharpen features), the DPI drops from 300 to 96.

Why is Photo AI dropping the DPI from 300 to 96? I’m not using any part of the upscale functions w/in Photo AI, so, DPI should remain at 300.

Please advise.

Topaz Photo AI [v1.x.x] on [Windows/Mac]

We currently have a bug where the resolution setting is global even when upscale is not turned on. I have a developer working on this.

For now, import a file and open Upscale. Select Inches instead of PX, set the resolution to 300.

Turn off upscale and process a file. The output should be 300 DPI now.

thanks for your response. I’ve tried these instructions multiple times to no avail. The DPI continues to revert from 300 DPI (original file) to 96 DPI.

what other workarounds are available, please?

We have a new version releasing tomorrow which should have a fix for this. Please update to v1.4.3 tomorrow and let me know what happens.

v1.4.3 did not correct the issue. original file’s DPI = 300. final file’s DPI = 96.

what other workarounds are available to be able to use Photo AI w/o the DPI significantly decreasing?

Can you try taking the file out of Dropbox and moving it to your Desktop for processing? I’m curious if the file location is affecting the metadata writing.

Please share the file so I can try to reproduce as well. You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

Ok, I moved the file out of DropBox, processed in Photo AI and the DPI stayed put at 300.

This wasn’t an issue earlier this week as I had one full day of Giga & Photo running seamlessly.

It’s possible that Topaz Photo AI does not have access to all the file information when processing from Dropbox.

Please let me know if you figure out exactly what is preventing the resolution from writing correctly.
