Photo AI is vignetting my RAW (or ignoring the lens profile)

After copying my RW2 file from Lightroom Classic (LrC) to Photo AI and letting it automatically process the file, when the resulting DNG file is opened in LrC some of the DNG images have been vignetted. Here is an example. There are other RW2 files processed the same way in Photo AI that are not vignetted, although I do have another issue, probably related, in which Topaz Photo AI processing bends straight lines near the edges of the photo into curves. I posted this issue here yesterday: Straight lines got bent by Photo AI Some of that bending is also visible here in the lower right corner.

The RW2 file contains a lens profile for my LUMIX DMC-FZ300, but the DNG file does not. I suspect that when LrC renders the RW2 file it applies the lens profile so that the image is displayed without the vignetting, but because the DNG file that was generated by Topaz Photo AI does not contain the lens profile, LrC cannot apply it.

This screenshot of the Lens Corrections profile panel in LrC indicates “Built-in Lens Profile applied” for the RW2 file, but when I select the DNG file this note is absent. Clicking on the little “info” icon to the left of the note produces the popup also shown below.

Blaming the vignetting on a missing lens profile is only a suspicion because I am not close to fully understanding lens profiles, etc. However, it does seem a bit similar to this forum post, although this thread ends with the problem having been fixed in a later release. Thanks for reaching out. This is due to Topaz Photo AI not having lens correction for this Raw file. The lens has heavy distortion that we are not able to correct.

A workaround for this is to use the Photo > Edit in > Topaz Photo AI method instead of the Raw workflow which will preserve the lens correction when converting the image to a TIF.
