Photo AI File Compression in JPEG, expansion in RAW...Thoughts?

Two Questions for the PhotoAI community:

  1. Does the automatic compression of my JPEG files degrade quality (i.e. for large prints)? If I import an 8Mb .jpg photo into Topaz Photo AI, do some Denoise and Sharpen, then save, the file comes out around 2-3Mb. It looks great but I’m just wondering if anyone notices issues when printing/viewing large.

  2. Why does Photo AI make my RAW files so big? If I import a 24Mb .NEF file into Topaz Photo AI, do some Denoise and Sharpen, then save, the file comes out around 125Mb! Files this size are not worth the trouble for me. Also, they come out in .DNG which I have trouble working with in other applications.

Your 1st question is mine also! My jpgs go from 8MB to 1.5 to 3MB but this couldn’t be good and then it’s the opposite with Raw Nikon NEF files. Are there tech support on hand to field these questions?
