I am working with a RAW file, some from my Nikon Z8 and some from my iPhone 14 Pro Max. My computer is a brand new Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.5 and I am using the latest version of LrC and Photo AI. I have been using Photo AI as a standalone since the bug of losing metadata when using it as a plugin from LrC was discovered. When I process a photo in Photo AI then import it into LrC several of the sliders in LrC are moved despite the fact that I use an Import Preset that zeros out everything (pretty much to avoid the automatic sharpening that Lr applies). By the way, I have the “Adjust Lighting” preferences in Photo AI set to 0. This only occurs on photos that I run through Photo AI first then import to LrC. The photos that I don’t run through Photo AI import via LrC import as they always have with no sliders moved. Also, you can see the tone difference visually when you look at the Photo AI photos. Another interesting fact is that you can’t reset the altered sliders by using the Reset function in LrC. You have to manually change each one. I have included some screenshots below, but I don’t know if they are readable. Let me also add that although the Luminance Noise Reduction slider in this case is not moved a significant amount, in some of my wildlife photos this slider was moved to 50 or more, kind of wiping out a lot of the affects of sharpening in Photo AI.
Steps to reproduce issue:
Step 1 Process photo in Photo AI as a standalone (prior to importing anything into LrC)
Step 2. Import both RAW unprocessed photos and Photo AI processed photos (I have done this both before importing the native RAW photo into LrC and after with the same result)
Step 3 Compare the photos visually then look at the Basic sliders and Luminance Noise Reduction slider in the Develop module
Thanks for sending in those screenshots would you mind sending in some more information to get a better understanding of the problem you are having with this particular type of image? Please send the following information:
The original image file.
The processed image.
A screenshot or description of the settings panel so I can see what adjustments were turned on.
If you would like to include any further information or screenshots you find relevant I will be sure to share with my team to get more information about what problem you may be experiencing.
You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below.
I just uploaded an example of the issue I reported. Here is a description of the preferences as to submit a screenshot of each screen would be very time consuming. I can make myself available by phone if you ever want to verbally run through my settings in area from OS to LrC to Photo AI. Here are the preferences that have been changed from the default. It’s not much, and you might find that some of these are in fact defaults.
General: AI processor = Apple M2 Max, bottom 3 set enabled
Lightroom Classic: option enabled
Autopilot: enabled
Upscale: I set the long side to 4000 px
Adjust lighting: set both to 0
I haven’t adjusted any other settings. In the photo I just uploaded the Basic changes weren’t much but the Detail adjustment to noise reduction was a lot. I have had other occurrences where there were several adjustments in Basic and sometimes the noise reduction in Detail was much less, but still there, just moved off the left side. I also want to bring your attention to the overall Tone/Color adjustment made by photo AI. I don’t know if that’s intentional or an unavoidable byproduct of the process, but in general most of us would prefer to make those adjustments in our raw editor like Lightroom. Normally those aren’t a problem, but I even have an example where Photo AI blew out the highlights in a background and made the water and sky unusable.
Anyway, like I said if you want to run through some things verbally on the phone I would be happy to set aside the time to do so. Thanks for your help.
