I recently installed the Photo AI 3.2.1 release on my Mac. The download appeared to run normally and by version number is correct. However, now every time I call Photo AI from Photoshop, it says “Some model files need to be re-downloaded before images can be processed”. It seems to download something on my machine and then completes normally. It does this even if I try to edit the same file. It also does this if I open Photo AI as a stand-alone and try to edit a file.
This error means something blocked/prevented all the AI models from downloading during installation.
Here are the steps to follow to resolve this issue:
- Important: Make sure you turn off your firewall, antivirus, and VPN (you can turn them back on once the installation process is done)
- You can download a new installer from your account’s download page | Topaz Labs | My Account | Download Page
Once you download and open this new version, you should be able to click on the blue ‘Activate’ button and log in with your Topaz Labs email account and password.
Once authenticated, please try the same model again and let me know if you get the error.
I did delete and re-install AI and rebooted my Mac … . did not help. Also deleted the 2 plist files as this helped before but this also did not work.
I’d like to get some more information to help troubleshoot the problem you are having.
Could you send us your computer’s full system profile?
Also if you can, please try to recreate this crash in Topaz Photo AI, then go to Help > Open Log Folder, please send me all of the files within that folder. You should be able to attach them directly as a response to this thread.

The problem seems to have gone away by itself. If it occurs again, I will let you know.
