Hey, thank you for giving it a go. Reassuring that you see it, too. (I also see the same behavior with Topaz Sharpen AI 4.1.0.) Right: Opacity is 100% and Blend Mode is Normal.
Yes, I am able to see it with other images derived from Fuji RAF 40mp (raw) files. When I have a chance, I can look into older 16MP Fuji raw files as well as Nikon raw from the D800 36mp sensor.
It does not seem to matter what the underlying layer is. I’ve reproduced the lack of total opacity in the Topaz layer using a solid red filled layer under it.
Interesting to me, also, is that the correct tonal balance in the Topaz AI layer is only achieved when the original layer below is enabled. When the lower layer is turned off, the shadows and blacks are washed out. Brighter colors do not seem (visibly) affected. So, the lack of opacity may be limited by specific spectrum of luminosity, maybe color, too. I’ve not done exhaustive testing. I do see the effect with B&W layers, as well.
My workaround is simple: Create a layer that combines the original and the Topaz AI layer, or merge them, and then go on from there. The merged layer seems satisfactory – again no exhaustive comparative analyses.
The effect of this apparent glitch on my workflow is minimal, merging layers, but, it does seem to be a glitch, and I would think that understanding the underlying cause could be useful.
Writing a paper at the moment. When I get back to images, if I find anything more I’ll check back. Again, I really appreciate your taking a look at this, too,
Brad
