Does anyone else tend to get some orange color on parts of faces when you upscale from SD?
(I think it may be inevitable so I’m just curious if others see this too, rather than expecting any solution.)
For me, it seems to happen where caucasian skin meets something dark, like an eyebrow or nostril. A highly saturated orange, like a bloom or outline or fringe appears around the dark area. Since flesh is pinkish you’d expect it would remain pinkish right on up to the very edge of the eyebrow or nostril. But instead it changes - the line of contrast between dark (eyebrow) and light (skin) seems to confuse it, and it decides “orange” is what you get when you mix skin-tone plus black.
Not a problem on closeups by the way. Most noticeable on wider shots.
Although AI models may encounter faces that are wearing eyeshadow in a great variety of colors, and therefore may not realize that faces rarely have orange, it feels like this particular orange effect occurs often enough to be something that the AIs could be trained to overcome. Even shifting the orange to pink would be an improvement, if it insists on adding a highly saturated color there.
