New .sh file added to System Settings after installing Video 1.6?

Something strange happened today after Installing Video 1.6.0 on my M5 Pro Mac. A new file called .sh file was added to Login Items, App Background Activity! File called .sh from an unknown developer ? Claude AI told me it was for NUKE. First of all, I don’t have NUKE installed, but why was a .sh script file added to the login… Sketchy.

I noticed something too in notification, but deleted it… Interested what is it?

When you installed the app, did you keep the plug-ins selected to install as well? The new release has an OFX plug-in for Nuke as well as DaVinci Resolve and After Effects.

Actually, I didn’t change anything; I just installed it as default, but I did notice that I again found the After Effects plugin folder in my Applications folder. I guess it’s because I once had AE installed. Other than that, I just installed it, and macOS showed a popup that a new file was added to login. I checked, and there was a new file called .sh from an unknown developer, and it was located in the bin/sh (the hidden bin folder) and also a new in ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.topazlabs.veai.nukepath.plist I removed that and the sh was gone.

Nuke is made by Foundry and they have a different structure for their software access that involves a stored file on the system. When the plug-in for Nuke gets installed it generates part of that file path and stores it. Selecting to not install the plug-ins should prevent that and the AE plugin from being installed.

Ah, so there is an option to not get the new NUKE plugin installed. That’s great, I didn’t notice that. My bad. I just saw that weird sh file in my System Settings and was wondering, what is that?

I did the same Installation I always did and never saw this before. Anyway no problem.

It’s now clarified. Thanks.

Another reason for just having a DMG install…

No, not your bad - @kyle.topazlabs 's bad! There is NO option to avoid getting that installed. I just double checked.

Andy

Almost - except for the user presets issue, which someone at Topaz thought it was a good idea to store them in the App’s folder on Mac, whereas they do it correctly on Windows.

Posted more details in the 1.6.0 thread, then realized this was discussed here. I kind of don’t like stuff staying in the background or starting automatically for unknown reasons. Hope Topaz can come up with a cleaner implementation.

Yes, I agree. This is pretty shoddy work on their part. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

My apologies on that Lui and for the delay in response here on the matter, as the word I had received was that it was installed with the OFX plug-in and if that was disabled it would not install the Nuke side of things.

I have passed that on to the team for their review and their knowledge along with the feedback about it being installed in the background.
