[MONOCHROME SHOOTING] - Ability to retain color profile on monochrome files

With my Nikon I sometimes set the display to b&w while shooting. The raw NEFs still have all the color information, I only use b&w as a composition aid. Today I tried to use Photo AI on one such file, and it ignores the color information, giving me a flat-looking monochrome export. In the upper left of the Photo AI display it says “camera profile applied”. I DO NOT want this, but there seems to be no way to disable it. As a result I can’t use Photo AI on my raw files.

Surely I’m missing something, and this unwanted feature can be disabled somehow?

Hello Jim,

That is the expected behavior! Photo AI will read the metadata and apply the color profile set in camera.

I have added your contact info on a ticket we have with the development team about the ability for Photo AI to retain the color information on export for these monochrome files. We can circle back here once that is possible. In the meantime, make sure to shoot in color to avoid any conflicts.

Thanks for the followup. IMHO, applying the camera profile in a destructive way defeats the whole purpose of shooting “raw”. Really hope this is made optional.

I agree there needs to be a switch - with Sony’s they have a variety of things (picture profiles, creative looks, etc.) some of which are applied to raws and others which only apply to ooc jpgs. I usually leave these settings off in camera so I’m not sure how they’re treated by TPAI but I would not want my Sony jpg styles applied to my arws.
