Downloaded the latest update today. It tries to download “evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox” and fails. When I try again it gets half way and locks up and crashes. If I ignore, nothing works.
Hi,
Since installation of version 8.4, I systematically get a problem related to model download.
First, a message indicated that additional models had to be downloaded in order to process the loaded image. The download failed and I had the choice to either Ignore or Retry. I retried and the app freezed.
I exited the program and, as recommended, checked the in-app download option, did a repair and rebooted the system. Problem still there (still with evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox).
Then, I went to the model store, removed that model file and did a repair again. The model file was re-installed. Now, when I launch GP and open a first image, I systematically get the same error message. However, if I don’t Retry but Ignore instead, GP starts working as expected… until the next session. Same problem whatever the image loaded and whether GP is launched standalone or from Lightroom.
I’m running windows 11 and there is a lot of free space on my system disk where ProgramData resides. No problem with the same images when using Photo AI.
Hi,
Same problem here. See [KNOWN ISSUE] v8.4 | Model Download Error for a possible temporary workaround.
By the way, I have noticed that contrary to the other model files, evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox.tz2 has no corresponding .tag file which could explain the bug.
The .tag files contents look like a CRC code used to certify the validity of the download. So obviously, something is going wrong when this file is downloaded. Or the CRC generation routine is missing for this file in the installer.
Another strange thing…
GP AI 8.4 is also installed on my laptop. I had a look at the models on that system (just in case the missing .tag file could be installed there). Not only it’s not there, but none of the evxxxxxxx models present on the PC is installed on the laptop. However, I have no problem loading the same images as on the PC.
So, it seems that the problem is not related to the loaded image but rather is an installation problem.
In the log file, the error message is as follows :
[2025-05-25 17:39:10.474, 417.93 ms] [2b74]
Warn | Model file “evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox.tz2” e-tag out of date. Last local update: QDateTime(2025-05-25 17:07:34.221 Paris, Madrid (heure d’été) Qt::LocalTime) Last server update: QDateTime(2024-04-22 19:13:40.000 UTC Qt::UTC)
I also found the following in the installation log file :
Log: Checking canSkipDownload for C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI\models\evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox.tz2
Log: Comparing file hash “1792d0e9bba9a8a242abf86d483fa4c7-12” “1cc50841629cbb5ca23bda8dc36a0fc7-6” to target “a50ad7ca8f751c7243f19b9fcca0d871-6”
Log: File hashes do not match
So, apparently the download server has the wrong file online or the target hash code is wrong. Nothing to do against that until Topaz fix the installer.
Problem acknowledged by the support. Should be fixed in the next release (8.4.1) which is on its way…
Problem not fixed after installation of version 8.4.1. Still there exactly as previously described.
No tag file generated for evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox model file which causes an error message when loading an image.
This error message is displayed during the installation or the repair. It doesn’t make sense since the data folder is fully writable (I also tried to execute the installer as an admin) and has a lot of disk space available.
As usual, error and warning messages are not accurate enough : "Unable to open model file ". Which file ? If it is the model file (evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox.tz2) it is actually installed. But not evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox.tz2.tag.
Same issue. If I hit ignore it gets to the 50% mark and freezes. Got a notification that there was an update today. Installed it hoping for a fix. No luck. Same error. Frustrating!
Keith,
There’s a possible workaround allowing to work with the program despite of the error. Just do what I described in message #2 :
- Delete or move C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI\models\evad-v1-fp16-64x64-ox.tz2
- Then do a repair or launch the installer again. Acknowledge and ignore any warning during this operation. You may have to reboot.
- After that, you shouldn’t get any warning when launching the program. This will only occur when opening an image file.
- The message will look like this
If you click on Ignore, the program should work normally. But you will always get the warning message when opening the first image in a session.
This is how things are working for me. The key point is to prevent the program to start downloading the allegedly missing model file : it is actually already fully installed. The Retry button when downloading the profile will always make the program freeze.
Keith,
After a suggestion from the support, the problem was solved by deleting everything in C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI\ and re-installing.
Hi,
I gave the solution to this problem in another thread :
- Delete everything in C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI
- Reinstall GP AI.
The problem is caused by leftovers from previous versions (models that are not longer used and that cannot be validated during installation). They should have been deleted when updating.
