latest Gigapixel installer says CPU needs AVX instruction to run, but I’ve been running Gigapixel and Photo AI for as long as they’ve been released
DxDiag.txt (143.4 KB)
I have the exact same issues with the latest Gigapixel. The install program says it needs AVX and my CPU has both AVX and AVX2.
My CPU is an Intel i9-10900k
You need to have the latest March updates for Windows.
it is not possible for me to install the March updates for Windows.
windows updates are not currently installable on my system
I split this into another thread for the Gigapixel team to look into this. I see other users already gave you links to this, which has steps to bypass this issue: [RESOLVED by updating MSVC] - Click here if you get “Your CPU must support AVX instructions to install this program"
Hello!
Getting the latest build version for Windows 10 (10945.5737+) is the usual solution.
If you’re already on the latest Windows 10 and still experiencing the error, many users have found that this C++ update from Microsoft resolves the issue:
Get v14.42.34438.0 from Microsoft
After the update, reboot the PC, and then test installing Gigapixel.
Open cmd.exe on your PC and use this command to determine your build version:
winver
Okay thanks for the reply and sorry.
It is a permanent problem of MICROSOFT WINDOWS, as it constantly seeks to make people buy new hardware and constantly puts restrictions on Windows systems which leads to the inconvenience of customers worldwide.
Therefore, this is not a problem created by TOPAZ, it is a problem of MICROSOFT WINDOWS.
I apologize for blaming TOPAZ and I want to be fair.
I can offer a workaround and something you should check before!
Verify Windows hasn’t decided to disable AVX for fun:
- Open Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run: bcdedit /enum {current}
- Look for “xsavedisable”.
- If it’s set to “1”, you’ve been blessed with a useless AVX block.
- Run this to fix it: bcdedit /set {current} xsavedisable 0
Reboot.
BIOS Settings (In Case Your Motherboard Enjoys Chaos):
- Even though it’s a “new-ish” board, double-check your BIOS.
- Make sure AVX is enabled (or “Auto”).
If it works now, great. If not, welcome to the my Circus:
Install a legacy version of the software (Windows 7/8 version).
Let it upgrade to the next version on startup.
Perform another in-app upgrade to the latest version.
Congrats, you have the latest version through a gloriously cursed workaround
I had the problem and all above didn’t help: Installing only the C++ redistributable didn’t help, AVX was active.
A full re-install as recomended above was not an option.
My solution:
- Made sure the latest patch level is installed
- Removed ALL installed older versions of the C++ redistributables (there were nine of them, one in Russian, one in Chinese!)
- Got the repair system to latest state:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Checked/repaired the system health: (it found errors)
sfc /scannow
- Installed the latest C++ redistributables
- Reboot
After that, the installation worked. Hooray
I found a different work around, even though the vc redist was installed, (uninstalled / removed fully)
Launch CMD as admin then run:
msiexec /a TopazGigapixelAI-8.4.0.msi /qb TARGETDIR=“C:\TopazTemp”
Inside the TopazTemp folder, Goto
“C:\TopazTemp\PFiles\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI”
and move everything from that inside the programs files folder version,
“C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI”
Then goto folder
“C:\TopazTemp\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI\models”
and move all that to the folder
“C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI\models”
Ofcourse if you installed it else where, use your installed locations. Had not encountered any error. Despite have AVX enabled with my cpu. You can delete the tempfolder after.
Why not? What error messages are you getting when you try to update your windows? What Windows version do you have?
unable to install windows updates, get the unhelpful error Failed to install - 0x800f0922 and I have tried every listed remedy that I can find to resolve this and none of them work
I tried to update to version 8.4.0 but I encountered the “CPU must support AVX instructions”. My CPU is Intel i7 4790 and it support AVX, AVX2. I’ve been using Gigapixel for a while already and currently on version 8.3.1.
I have the latest Windows 10 update and installed VC_redist.x64.exe but still no luck.
Hello,
If Windows fails to update through the built-in updater, you may be able to find the build version you need to download and install it manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
I am trying to upgrade from an early Gigapixel 8 version to the current 8.4 and the installer says “Your CPU must support AVX instructions to install this program.”
I have a AMD Threadripper Pro 5995WX which has AVX extensions. I think the check in the installer is buggy. Also the old version of the installer obviously worked.
