I’ve been getting sporadic grid artifacts in images processed with Photo AI for some time now. This has been going on across several version updates. Images were batch processed directly in Photo AI but only a few have these issues. Glad to supply the RAW file if necessary. The attached screenshot was edited for effect in Lightroom to highlight the problem but the grid is visible in the untouched DNG from Photo AI. I’ve had to go back and reprocess many images now after finding these artifacts since I began using PAI. If I’m doing something wrong, I’d be glad to know that too. There are a few other threads here about this issue but none has a resolution.
EDIT - I uploaded the CR3 but the DNG is too big to upload. If you want it you’ll have to send me a link.
Steps to reproduce issue:
Process CR3 file in Photo AI on autopilot.
Topaz Photo AI v1.5.2 (and previous versions) on Windows
I am getting the same issues with CR3 raw files or converted CR3 to TIFF files just like above posts using the following; DeNoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Photo AI. What I have observed when moving around the image in the suggested software, can show a slightly yellow/green tinge grid within the image. When releasing the mouse button and waiting for the update to finish, it shows that portion of the image on screen to look okay. Moving away from that updated portion of the image shows the grid bug that was not in view at the time of the update. It appears that the grid bug saves with the image. Hope this helps.
We are working on a fix for this issue in the Remove Noise - Raw models. It should release in two weeks.
If that works, we will be fixing it in the Upscaling models as well.
Sharpen AI and Topaz Photo AI sharpening does not have this issue. If you are seeing it there, please send a screen recording or screenshots so I can check that.
I loaded an older NEF file to Topaz Photo AI and let the auto process work. It upscaled the photo 2x and I saved it as a DNG file on my external hard drive. When opening the DNG file in Photoshop2024, there is a faint grid over the photo. I didn’t notice this grid in Topaz Photo AI or in Windows Photo. The grid is not on the NEF file in Photoshop2024. So it looks like the processing in Topaz PhotoAI causes it. I was able to recreate the issue a second time
Hi, after I’ve denoised and sharpened a photo using the TPAI plugin on Photoshop 2024 and saved the photo using the photoshop export as settings. The issue occurs when it is uploaded to Jetphotos.com, where there seems to be grid-like artefacts visible, when viewing it on the “check for dust” checker. Considering my main use is aircraft photography, I can’t get photos on Jetphotos when using Topaz Photo Ai.
Steps to reproduce issue:
Step 1: take photo of plane in blue sky.
Step 2: Use the topaz photo ai photoshop plugin and use autopilot recommended settings for remove noise and sharpen.
Step 3: Use the “export as” setting on photoshop (set it to jpg, quality 7, 1600 pixels width).
Upload it to jetphotos.com and use the “check for dust” checker, which will reveal the grid-like artefact.
I can see a checkerboard grid pattern on some of my images in Topaz Photo AI v2.3.1. The grid appears in the sharpening process. It appears only when using “standard” or “strong” sharpening - “lens blur” and “motion blur” do not produce the grid. The grid appears when using Nikon RAW NEF files, TIFs, and JPGs, but only on certain photos. The grid appears whether other tools are used with sharpening such as removing noise or if sharpening is used alone.
