Issue with Nikon z6iii NEF

I report an issue when trying to process NEFs from the Nikon Z6 III with Topaz Photo AI as a plugin in Lightroom Classic.

When I try to open Nikon Z6 III NEFs with the procedure:
File>Plug-in Extras>Process with Topaz Photo AI
I get the interface of the program but I cannot see the image (ref01 attachment). If I try to process the image nonetheless, clicking on “Export to Adobe LrC”, I get the following message:
“Error: DNG write error” (ref02 attachment)

On the other hand, this issue does not happen if I edit the image as a TIFF from the right-click menu.

Furthermore, the issue has never happened and still does not occur when I process the NEFs of my NIKON D7000. In this case everything works fine as always.

This is the first time ever I process NEFs from a Nikon z6 III (which I bought very recently) so I guess the issue is related to this kind of files.

I use Topaz Photo AI on a Windows11-based computer.

First off, congratulations on getting the latest model of the Nikon Z6 family, I hope that you’ve been able to get some wonderful shots

Currently, the Nikon Z6 III is not supported by Photo AI. We use LibRaw’s open-source software to handle raw files within Topaz Photo AI, which does not yet support the Nikon Z6 III. As soon as they update their list, the following Photo AI release will support the added camera models.

In the meantime, a workaround for using these RAW files would be to convert them to DNG before importing them into Photo AI.

  • You can do this with Lightroom Classic if you have access to it, or with Adobe DNG converter.

Let us know if this is working for you after converting the files.

I have added your information to a ticket we have opened with our development team to support this camera profile. We will be sure to reach out to you on this thread once we can support your Nikon Z6III.

Thank you for the clarification on Nikon Z6 iii support. I’ll employ the workaround you suggested, while waiting for the z6 iii camera profile to be added.

[Please describe your issue here. Try to include logs (Help → Logging) and add screenshots if necessary.]

Steps to reproduce issue:

After coming back off holiday updates Photo AI and finally found it would work on Nikon z6lll files. The first file worked fine but after that reverted to the old problem of a black screen although photos showed in thumbnail. Will this be finally nailed so that I can edit Z6lll files with photo ai

I am having issues when I process my NEF file from Z6 III. It process fine but when I export it back, it says “Error:DNG Write Error”. Any help???

Congratulations on getting the latest model of the Nikon Z6 family

Any ETA on this?

Unfortunately, we do not have a definitive timeline to share at this moment, however once LibRaw updates to support this camera, our application should properly support it as well

We are now at the end of October of 2024 and Topaz still have not managed to handle the Nikon Z6iii’s RAW format - over six months after its release! I am fuming mad wondering if Photo AI was such a smart investment. In the meantime I am being bombarded with Topaz ads. C’mon guys, get your act together!

Getting message “Error DNG write error" when exporting Nikon NEF files after processing. Fine when saving as TIFF

Steps to reproduce issue:

Import NEF file (direct from folder) and denoise and sharpen.
Export
Choose DNG and no compression and save (note also tried to save with compression and same result)

I recently updated Photo Ai to version 3.3.0
Topaz Photo AI [v3.3.0] on [Windows 11]

Following the update the following problem is shown:-

  1. I am using Lightroom Classic (Lrc version 14.0.1 release.)
  2. I have selected a photo to transfer to Photo Ai
  3. I select:-
  • File (using Lrc installed on Windows 11)
  • Plug-in Extras
  • Process with Topaz Photo AI

Photo AI starts as expected but the photo is not displayed as in the previous versions of Topaz.
The file name is shown (in the banner between the menu
and the image) but the image is not shown.

The files that show this problem are Nikon NEF RAW files from a Z6iii.

The problem does not show up (i.e. photo is displayed correctly) for older Nikon NEF files (In my case from a NIKON D7100).

Thanks
