Is it a bad idea to run topaz ai video enhancement rendering on macbook pro ? High temperature

I just got my latest m3 max macbook pro with 64gb ram and trying to start render some old low quality video to high resolution.

I tried upscale a 15minute duration video and i notice my CPU temperatures hits 70-85 celsius and GPU temperatures 80-90 celsius, i then maxed out the fans speed in TG pro to cool down the macbook just to avoid the heat damage the hardware.

I am a new macbook user and i dont know if this is a normal temperature while running topaz ai.

As this is my work so i will need to render more videos maybe few 5-8 hours a day just for video enhance, is this a good idea to render using macbook ? or there is a problem with my macbook pro ?

No, those temperatures are normal.
A notebook doesn’t have only remotely the same possibility for heat dissipation as a desktop system and add to that that Apple has a tradition to turn up the fans quite late.
So I’d suggest using some third party fan control and manually set them to e.g. 2000rpm. This should keep temperatures at a reasonable level and minimize thermal wear of the components.

This is what I do on both my MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and also on the Mac Studio M2 Ultra.

thanks for your advice,

Btw, whats ur temperature of ur macbook pro while doing upscare video in topaz ?

I’ll have to try again as lately I’m encoding on the Mac Studio for obvious reasons.
AFAIR I was able to keep temps in the 70s with longer encodes (of course this will also depend quite much on ambient temperature).

weird, my macbook pro temperature stays at 92 to 102 celsius even with the 5600rpms max fan turned on. i even turn on low power mode. not sure if my macbook pro hardware problem or what.

Do you have a 14" MacBook?
The 16" (which I have) apparently has quite a bit better thermal handling than the 14" according to several tests at the release of those M1 notebook.

it’s a macbook pro m3 max 16inch

I am unable to get Topaz to work on my new MacBook Pro M3. It will start the process and after a few minutes will just stop and exports about one second video clip.

Hmm, likely the M3 Max does have higher wattage under load than my M1 Pro.
Here’s what I get upscaling an SD source 2x with Iris and the fans set to 3000rpm:

And two hours later:

This is in a quite warm room (for my feeling) at about 23° Celsius.

Can I ask you how long it took you to upscale your video from roughly 15 minutes?
