When using the iris model to upscale a video, it sometimes tries to hard to rebuild faces.
Attached is a single frame from a video showing both the original and what Iris did to it when it attempted to upscale. In this case it was upscaling from 720x480 to 1080x720.
Although Iris does an excellent job generally, and I use it the most, it shouldn’t be attempting recovery of large numbers of tiny faces.
Here’s a weird one from a 360p to 2X. Iris LQ managed to find a face on a jacket pocket! And then there’s the gentleman with the Groucho Marx nose. The image on the right is Proteus.
