IRIS DVD to HD upscale fast motion ok but eyes/face issue

I am upscaling some old action tv series on DVD from the 80’s with lots of martial arts movements.

I tried Proteus but that gives smears on fast motion. After lots of DVD processing, i noticed that IRIS is a lot better in handling this fast motion and gives the color more punch too. The bad thing is that IRIS can destroy eyes that are small in the background in some scenes. Can this be solved?

I use IRIS with sharpen 5 and Recover Detail 2 only. IRIS results just looks much better for these tv series than Proteus; for Proteus i also had to use Fix Compression 30 for jumping pixels in the background of some scenes.

IRIS is perfect except that it could mess up eyes/faces that are not sharp and on distance in the background in the video. Is there a way to prevent this happening or make Proteus get the same results as IRIS? Or a better model that can be used locally without AI side effects?

Using version 1.1.2.

Maybe try IrisLQ V1 (you’ll have to enable previous models in the settings).

This - while lacking some of the extra sharpness and details - is much more true to the original and does create those monster faces much more seldom. Use a relatively high positive value for the Antialias/Deblur slider (at least 40, maybe try 65).

P.S.: you should also give Starlight a try if you have the hardware and time.

Thanks but i was already using Iris LQ. Deblur will get the jumping pixels/noise back i think. Can’t use starlight cause that is cloud.

Also Iris LQ V1?

LQ V2 is IMO nearer to MQ than LQ V1…

You could also give Proteus natural a try - there the creepy eyes and monster faces don’t occur but depending on the source material the effect/ enhancement can also be extremely subtle (up to the point where it’s barely noticeable).
