I was surprised and sadden to learn Joao Gilberto passed away recently. Father of the Bossa Nova, he collaborated with Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto to create “The Girl from Ipanema” perhaps one of my favorite songs which I’ve listened to a thousand times.

Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walkin’
And when she passes, each one she passes goes, ah

Great work Doug. I still have the vinyl of Getz/Gilberto which I bought in the 70’s. Very sad, he was the heart of the bossa nova
