Intermittent Issues with Video AI – Seeking Clarity

Hi,

Could I please get an explanation of why Video AI intermittently stops working, then starts working again weeks later, only to stop again a few days after that? Every other software I use is consistent—something either works or it doesn’t. However, Video AI has been unpredictable for me since I started using it over a year ago.

I’ve tested multiple versions and settled on 5.4.0, as I don’t require cloud rendering. Currently, the issue I’m experiencing is that the render timeline doesn’t update accurately. The export section fails to update, even though the render is still progressing. While this is an improvement over my previous issue—where rendering would stop entirely at around 6%—the inconsistency remains frustrating.

One pattern I’ve noticed is that when I experience an issue, it affects all versions I’ve tried, meaning switching versions isn’t a viable workaround. Each time a problem arises, I have to report it here and wait. When things eventually start working again, I assume it’s due to a change on your end rather than anything I’ve done.

This unpredictability makes it difficult to rely on the software, particularly for professional users or those running a business. Could you provide some insight into what causes these recurring issues and how they are being resolved? I haven’t received any communication that explains why this happens.

Ultimately, I need to know that my software will function reliably. I invested in an appropriate system (Mac Studio M1) and keep my setup clean, so I’d appreciate clarity on what I can expect regarding stability and performance.

Looking forward to your insights.

Can you try changing the audio mode in codec settings to “convert”?

If that doesn’t work, could you share a screen recording of the behavior?

  • We recommend loom, it’s free and easy to use. Once your Loom recording is ready, you’ll be able to get a link with the video, please reply back with the link
  • Feel free to use any other preferred method and send the video file attached to your email replace. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it here: Submit File to Dropbox

I can try that, but my main concern is why the software intermittently stops working across all versions and then starts working again without any changes on my end. Is there a known issue that could explain this behavior? It’s been happening for over a year, and I haven’t received any communication about what causes these disruptions. For example, is it the models, that have to download a fresh every time I render, that may be creating the errors?

The version of the app that is installed onto your system does not change. Potential reasons why some things might not work from time to time could be caused by various file or compatibility issues, permissions issues, or if you are having internet issues could be caused by downloading the models, just to name a few common errors.

You can pre-download all the models to avoid having to rely on the downloading at each process by using the model manager by going to:

File > model manager

Hi Margaux,

Thanks for your response. However, it didn’t really address the core of what I’m experiencing—or what I asked.

Just to reiterate, I’m not looking for general causes of random issues. My concern is the repeated pattern of system-wide failure across versions, where Video AI stops functioning, then starts working again weeks later without any changes on my end. This isn’t a typical file or permissions issue—it feels connected to something external, like model availability, server-side changes, or licensing checks.

For context, when the problem occurs, every version I test (including 5.4.0) behaves the same. Switching versions has never solved it. Then, seemingly without explanation, things begin working again. If this were due to files, system permissions, or my internet connection, I’d expect more predictable behavior—or similar issues in my other software, which isn’t the case.

What I need is insight into:

  • Whether any server-side dependencies, model delivery systems, or licensing checks could explain this pattern
  • If similar cases have been reported by other users, particularly on Mac Studio M1
  • Whether there are specific logs I should provide to help pinpoint the cause

I’m raising this again because it directly affects my ability to rely on Video AI professionally. I’ve invested in suitable hardware and maintain a clean system. What I need is a clearer picture of what’s happening behind the scenes when these outages occur—and whether anything is being done to improve stability.

Thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing back with something more specific.
